May 9 Softball Roundup: Clarion Scores Early then Holds Off Brookville for Win

CLARION 7, BROOKVILLE 6

BROOKVILLE, Pa. – Scoring five times over the first two innings and then holding off a late Brookville charge, Clarion put aside Monday’s blowout loss to Cranberry with a 7-6 road win over the Lady Raiders, the Lady Cats second win over Brookville in less than a week.

Clarion took advantage of five Brookville errors to build a 7-3 lead going to the bottom of the sixth then watched the Lady Raiders scored three times in the inning to get within a run on a three-run Hannah Kirkwood home run. Brookville then had the tying run at second with one out and at third with two outs in the seventh before Sadie Rudesyle got Abby Sunealitis to pop up to end the game.

Cora Zerfoss, Carly Best, Alexis Constantino and Sydney Kiser each had two hits for the Lady Cats with Thornton tripling and driving in two and Kate Constantino scoring twice while getting a single and a walk. Zerfoss and Alexis Constantino also scored

Kirkwood was 1-for-3 with the three-run home run, a walk and a run scored for Brookville. Madison Gilbert was 2-for-2 with a double, a walk and two runs scored. Sunealitis also scored twice while walking twice.

Kate Constantino got the win going four innings allowing three runs on two hits and seven walks while striking out two. Rudesyle picked up the save going three innings allowing three runs on three hits and a walk while striking out one.

Carlie McManigle took the loss going seven innings allowing seven runs, two earned, on 11 hits and a walk while striking out two.

JOHNSONBURG 12, BROCKWAY 4

RIDGWAY, Pa. – Behind three hits from Britnee Thorwart and Jaylie Johnson and a pair of RBIs from Lindsey Kocjancic Johnsonburg dispatched visiting Brockway, 12-4.

Thorwart was 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored, while Johnson was 3-for-4 with a double, an RBI and two runs scored. Kocjancic, meanwhile, went 1-for-4 and scored twice.

Also for the Ramettes, Kylee Wall tripled and scored twice, while Nicole Meyers was 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored.

DUBOIS 10, HOLLIDAYSBURG 4

DUBOIS, Pa. – Maddie Smith hit a home run and Marissa Torretti and Danessa Allison each had doubles to help DuBois to a 10-4 win over visiting Hollidaysburg.

Smith was 1-for-2 with a walk, the solo homer, an RBI and a run scored. Torretti went 1-for-3 with two RBIs and Allison was 2-for-2 with a walk, a run scored and an RBI.

Kacie Means and Autumn Shaffer each added a pair of RBIs with Means going 1-for-2 with a walk and a run scored and Shaffer 1-for-2 with a walk and a run scored. Rachel Gildersleeve also went 2-for-3 with a walk, a run scored and an RBI and Laura Fatula was 1-for-3 with two runs scored.

Kylie Kane tripled, scored a run and drove in two for Hollidaysburg.

ELK COUNTY CATHOLIC 25, KANE 10, 5 INNINGS

KANE, Pa. – Elk County Catholic scored at least six runs in three different innings on its way to a 25-10, five-inning win at Kane.

ECC put up 10 in the first, six in the second and seven in the fifth while scoring 25 runs on 17 hits and 17 walks while also taking advantage of three Kane errors.

Emily Evers and Emily Wolf each had three hits, while Josie Smith drove in five runs and Evers, Wolf, Michelle Gerber and Jenna Weisner three runs each.

Evers was 3-for-4 with three doubles and three runs scored, Wolf was 3-for-3 with a home run, a double, a pair of walks and four runs scored, Smith was 3-for-5 with a double, a walk and two runs scored, Weisner was 2-for-3 with a triple, three walks and five runs scored and Gerber was 3-for-4 with a double, two walks and a run scored. Also for ECC, Brandi Clyde went 1-for-2 with four walks, an RBI and three runs scored.

Kane’s offense showed up as well picking up 10 runs on 15 hits including five doubles.

Ella Marconi had a pair of doubles while going 3-for-3 with a walk, two runs scored and three RBIs.

Marcie Stanisch, Sadie Tunall and Mackenzie Edinger also doubled with Stanisch going 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI, Tunall 4-for-4 with three runs scored and Edinger 1-for-1 with a run scored.

Kennedy Himes was also 2-for-3 with three RBIs for Kane with Rachel Morgan picking up a hit, three walks and three runs scored. Alexis Lima-Lopez chipped in three RBIs

Gerber got the win in relief of Smith going 2 ⅔ innings allowing two runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out four. Smith pitched 2 ⅓ innings allowing eight runs, five earned, on eight hits and four walks while striking out one.

Rachel Danielson took the loss going one inning allowing 10 runs on six hits and eight walks.

PENNS VALLEY 9, CLEARFIELD 6

HYDE, Pa. – Three Penns Valley hitters each had two hits, and the Rams overcame a 6-3 deficit going to the sixth by scoring three times in the sixth and three more in the seventh to get a 9-6 road win at Clearfield.

Lydia Collison was 2-for-5 with a double, a run scored and an RBI for Penns Valley with Ryleigh Cain going 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored and Emma Kubalak 2-for-2 with a double and an RBI.

Karly Rumsky was 2-for-3 with two doubles and two runs scored for Clearfield, while Erica Hanes was 1-for-3 with a run scored and two RBIs and Brooke Cline 1-for-3 with a double, two runs scored and an RBI.

Harley Hess got the win in relief of Kubalak going 2 ⅔ innings allowing one unearned run on one hit and one walk while striking out two. Kubalak went 4 ⅓ innings giving up five runs, four earned, on seven hits and a walk while striking out two.

Abby Fedder took the loss going seven innings allowing nine runs, four earned, on nine hits and two walks while striking out five.
