KANE, Pa. – Going into Thursday’s night’s game with visiting Youngsville, Andrew Bucheit’s shot at reaching 1,000 career points at home looked slim to none.
After all, the Wolves’ senior big man needed 53 points to become the eighth player in school history to reach the milestone, and Kane’s next four games after the Thursday night clash are away from home.
But Bucheit scored a school-record 56 points, which is also the most in District 9 in the D9Sports.com era (2001-present), to become the fourth District 9 player this week to score 1,000 points in a career.

The senior made 24 shots from the field, including 23 2-pointers and a 3-pointer, and was also 7 of 8 from the line in an 84-43 victory. It broke the former school record of 52 points set by Andrew Gustafson in 1991.
After scoring just six points in the first quarter, he netted 20 of Kane’s 29 second-quarter points, 20 of the Wolves’ 23 third-quarter points and 10 of the 15 fourth-quarter points for Kane.
He joins Moniteau’s Kristina DeMatteis, Elk County Catholic’s Nate DaCanal and Clearfield’s Tommy Hazel in reaching the 1,000-point mark this week in District 9.
And while complete historical District 9 scoring records aren’t available, it is known that Bucheit’s 56 points are the most in District 9 since Cameron County’s Shane Goss also scored 56 in 1999. Bucheit and Goss are the only known players to score at least 56 in a game, although again records are sparse for many years (anyone knowing anyone to have scored more than 56 in a District 9 game can e-mail us at sports@d9sports.com. Please include proof if possible).
He also becomes the seventh-known player in D9 history to reach 50 points joining Goss, George Wise of Clearfield (54 in 1957), Gustafson, Calvin Grumley of Johnsonburg (52 in 2006), Brandon Housler of Cameron County (51 in 1999) and Robert Zanella of Karns City (50 in 1979).
In the win, Kane also got nine points from freshman Chad Greville and seven from Davis Gardner. Bucheit completed a double-double with 15 rebounds.
Levi Hendrickson and Brady Kesterholt each had 13 points.
