BOYS’ SOCCER

SOMERSET 4, CLEARFIELD 2

WINDBER, Pa. – Despite grabbing a 1-0 lead midway through the first half, Clearfield fell, 4-2, to Somerset in a PIAA Class 3A boys’ soccer play-in game at Windber.

Zane Morgan gave the Bison (13-4-2) a 1-0 lead in the 25th minute, but Somerset scored twice before halftime to take a 2-1 lead.

The Eagles then expanded the lead to 3-1 in the second half before Jake Sorbera got Clearfield back within a goal, 3-2, with under 20 minutes left.

But Somerset picked up an insurance goal to close out the contest.

VOLLEYBALL

KANE 3, KARNS CITY 0

KANE, Pa. – Trinity Clark had 10 kills, two blocks and two aces to lead second-seeded Kane into the District 9 2A championship game with a 3-0 (25-17, 25-18, 25-20) win over third-seeded Karns City in Kane.

Alyssa Zampogna added eight kills, nine digs, three aces and two blocks for the Lady Wolves (13-4) with Ella Marconi chipping in five kills and three blocks and Sadie Tunall five kills, five digs and three aces.

Marcie Stanisch was also strong on defense for Kane with seven digs while adding two aces. Ashley Jordan (18 set assists, 2 aces) and Hannah Buhl (12 assists, 1 ace) ran the offense.

Mackenzie Craig paced Karns City (6-7) with seven kills and six assists. Emily Hegedus added four kills with Brooke Moore chipping in seven set assists.

Kane will face top-seeded Redbank Valley in the District 9 title game at Noon Saturday at Brockway High School.

DUBOIS 3, ST. MARYS 2

DUBOIS, Pa. – Danessa Allison and Lexi Ray combined for 28 kills to help top-seeded DuBois rally past visiting and fourth-seeded St. Marys, 3-2, in the District 9 3A volleyball semifinals.

After grabbing a 1-0 lead with a 25-22 Set One victory, the Lady Beavers fell down 2-1 by dropping sets two and three by scores of 25-21 and 25-22. But DuBois battled back to force a fifth set with a 25-23 Set Four win and then took home the match with a 15-6 Set Five victory.

Allison led the Lady Beavers with 15 kills with Ray adding 13. Kelli Hoffer served well for DuBois with six aces, Kylee Bundy paced the defense with 38 digs and Ashley McCluskey ran the offense with 42 set assists.

DuBois will face second-seeded Punxsutawney, a 3-0 (28-26, 27-25, 25-17) winner over Bradford in the District 9 title game at 2 p.m. Saturday at Brockway High School.
