CLARION 3, SAEGERTOWN 0

KNOX, Pa. – Korrin Burns had 20 kills and four digs to lead Clarion to a 3-0 (25-18, 25-19, 25-23) win over Saegertown in the opening round of the PIAA Class 1A playoffs at Keystone High School.

Brenna Campbell added 23 set assists and 14 digs for the Lady Cats who also got six kills and 10 digs from Kait Constantino, five kills from Aryana Girvin and six digs from KK Girvin.

Relisten to the game:

Brittany Houck had eight kills to lead Saegertown with Averie Braymer, Kaylee Mulligan and Carmen Kantz each chipping in five kills.

Clarion will take on Bishop Carroll in the second round Saturday at a time and place to be announced.

COCHRANTON 3, ELK COUNTY CATHOLIC 1

MEADVILLE, Pa. – Despite one final strong match from Taylor Newton, District 9 runner-up Elk County Catholic dropped a 3-1 (25-15, 25-16, 20-25, 25-15) decision to District 10 champion Cochranton in the opening round of the PIAA Class 1A playoffs at Meadville High School.

Newton finished with 18 kills and completed her ECC career with 1,414 kills.

Julia Aikens added six kills and four aces for the Lady Crusaders while Madyson Dellaquila had four kills.

Cochranton will play Northern Cambria in the second round Saturday at a time and place to be announced.

FREEPORT 3, BROOKVILLE 0

PITTSBURGH – Tori Radvan and Isabella Russo combined for 18 kills to lead WPIAL champion Freeport to a 3-0 (25-11, 25-13, 25-17) win over District 9 champion Brookville in the opening round of the PIAA Class 2A playoffs at Shaler High School.

Radvan and Russo each had nine kills for the Yellow Jackets, while Mackensey Jack added eight kills.

Brookville had 13 kills as a team, although individual breakdowns of those kills weren’t available.

The Lady Raiders led just once in the match, 1-0 in the first set.

Freeport will take on WPIAL fourth-place finisher Beaver in the second round Saturday at a site and time to be announced.

THOMAS JEFFERSON 3, DUBOIS 0

KNOX, Pa. – WPIAL runner-up Thomas Jefferson got 10 kills from Ashleigh Haines and eight kills, three aces and a block from Tyler Turk to beat District 9 champion DuBois, 3-0 (25-14, 25-10, 25-17) in the opening round of the PIAA Class 3A playoffs at Keystone High School.

The Jaguars took control from outset in each set taking an 8-2 lead in the first set, a 14-1 lead in the second set and a 10-3 lead in the third set on their way to victory.

Julia Palmer added seven kills and two aces for Thomas Jefferson, who will play Palmyra in the second round Saturday at a time and time to be announced.

Sydney Kaschalk paced DuBois with five kills, including four in the first set, two aces and two blocks.

Cayla Donahhue added four kills for the Lady Beaver, while Taylor Smith chipped in three kills and a block, Kaylee Sadowski three kills and an ace and Leah Colville two kills.
