Q&A With Megan Mealy

D9Sports: What is your favorite sport to participate in and why?
MM: Soccer is my favorite sport to play because I have played it since I was 5 or 6, giving me plenty of time to become passionate about it and skillful as well. It is a way for me to relieve stress and focus on simply playing a sport I love.

D9Sports: What is your favorite memory, moment, game from playing high school sports?
MM: My favorite memory from playing high school sports would have to be making it to the D9 district championships and bonding with my teammates each and every day, pushing one another to be our very best.

D9Sports: Why do you play high school sports?
MM: I participate in high school sports because it build character. By being a part of a team with such great teammates, allows me to express myself and cherish my time, all while staying in shape and learning how to be a leader, not only in season but outside of season as well.

D9Sports: Who has had the most influence on your athletic career and why?
MM: My teammates/coaches and my family have had the most influence on my athletic career. My teammates and I have laid a solid and respectable foundation for not only the school but for other female athletes. My teammates and coaches push me to my absolute hardest and a little farther. As well as my family who as encouraged me and supported me through the wins and the losses.

D9Sports: If you could change one thing about high school sports, what would it be and why?
MM: If I could change one thing about high school sports, it would be the stereotype that is associated with most student-athletes. Inside every athlete is a committed, strong, and courageous student who is taking on more than most can handle all while being a kind and respectable citizen as well.

D9Sports: If you could be president for a day, what would be the one major thing you would do?
MM: If I could be president for a day, I would visit an impoverished country and construct a team who could plan and act on those plans to benefit that country, in hopes of improving the quality of life for everyone in the world.

D9Sports: What is your ideal place to live? County, City, Suburb? Why?
MM: My ideal place to live would be the suburbs. It’s simply the best of both worlds. You have your peaceful neighborhoods that provide nice scenery. Meanwhile, if you need to get to town quickly you aren’t too far away, making it even more convenient.

D9Sports: What would someone who doesn’t know you be surprised to find out about you?
MM: I think my laugh is most interesting to people who don’t know me. I tend to be loud and laugh alloootttttttt, which often takes over my quiet and shy persona.

D9Sports: What is your strongest subject in school?
MM: My strongest subject in school is most likely biology or Spanish.

D9Sports: If there was one period in history or one event in history you could go back to, what would it be?
MM: If there was one period in history or one event in history I could go back to, it would be a time before technology because I think people today, especially my generation, is a little too caught up in it sometimes.

D9Sports: What question do you wish I would have asked you? And what is the answer to it?
MM: One question I wish I would have been asked would be: “what do you think about most while on the field?” and my answer would be: I am always trying to quickly think of the next move the opponent will make but once in a while I catch myself simply just appreciating the game and the abilities I have been gifted from God to be able to be on the field.
