Q&A With Shay Gulvas

D9Sports: What is your favorite sport to participate in and why?
SG: Softball is my favorite sport to participate in because I have been playing it my whole life. I love my high school team, and it’s just such a fun and exciting sport to play.

D9Sports: What is your favorite memory, moment, game from playing high school sports?
SG: I would have to say beating West Greene in the semifinals to get to the state championship because we have been working towards this goal for years and now we are finally here.

D9Sports: Why do you play high school sports?
SG: I play high school sports because I am athletic and I have always loved playing sports. I watched my cousins and older siblings play so I have always just been raised around athleticism.

D9Sports: Who has had the most influence on your athletic career and why?
SG: I would have to say my dad (Ed Gulvas) because he has been my coach for basketball and softball for years and he has taught me so much about each sport. He constantly helps me to be better and to work hard. He tells me about his accomplishments and things he did when he played sports, and I want to be able to be successful like him.

D9Sports: If you could change one thing about high school sports, what would it be and why?
SG: If I had to change something about high school sports, it would probably be nothing because since my freshman year, everything was what I expected it to be and I love everything about it.

D9Sports: If you could be president for a day, what would be the one major thing you would do?
SG: I would make sure that everyone had some sort of place to go if they needed food, shelter, or clothing whenever they needed it.

D9Sports: What is your ideal place to live? Country, City, Suburb? Why?
SG: I would say suburb because I don’t want to live inside of a city, but I also don’t want to live so far away from a city. I think a suburb is perfect because it’s not too far away from everything yet it is private and not too crowded.

D9Sports: What would someone who doesn’t know you be surprised to find out about you?
SG: I am a huge The Walking Dead fan!

D9Sports: What is your strongest subject in school?
SG: English

D9Sports: If there was one period in history or one event in history you could go back to, what would it be?
SG: I would have to say Jesus’ time period because I would love to meet and speak with him.

D9Sports: What question do you wish I would have asked you? And what is the answer to it?
SG: “What is another activity (besides sports) that you enjoy?” – I enjoy spending time with my nephew, Easton!
