Player Profile: Taylor Newton, Elk County Catholic

TAYLOR NEWTON – SENIOR – ELK COUNTY CATHOLIC

Daughter of: Craig and Julie Newton
Sports Played: Volleyball, Basketball, Track & Field
Family Members Playing/Played Sports: Her older brother Ryan and both her parents played sports in high school.
2018-19 Highlights: Was all-state in all three sports she played. Won the PIAA Class 2A title in track & field in the high jump … Earned first-team All American Awards & Engraving D9Sports.com All-District 9 in basketball after averaging 17.0 points, 10.5 rebounds. 2.2 assists and 1.7 steals per game while shooting 48 percent from the field. She enters her senior season with 924 career points.
Post-High School Plans: After high school she plans on attending college and majoring in nuclear medicine technology. She also plans to continue her track and/or volleyball career in college.

Q&A With Taylor Newton

D9Sports: What is your favorite sport to participate in and why?
TN: honestly love all three of the sports I do equally.

D9Sports: What is your favorite memory, moment, game from playing high school sports?
TN: My favorite moment of high school sports was definitely winning the state title in the high jump. It was the most exciting moment I have ever experienced.

D9Sports: Why do you play high school sports?
TN: I play high school sports because I love the competitiveness, and friendships you create with your teammates. At a young age, I really looked up to my parents’ athletic career and wanted to be just like them when I was in high school.

D9Sports: Who has had the most influence on your athletic career and why?
TN: truthfully don’t think I could pick just one person that influenced me the most with sports. My mom and dad were amazing athletes and I definitely wanted to be as good as they were. My brother Ryan also heavily influenced me as well.

D9Sports: If you could change one thing about high school sports, what would it be and why?
TN: If I could change one thing about high school sports, I would want to have more people participate and get involved!

D9Sports: If you could be president for a day, what would be the one major thing you would do?
TN: If I were president for a day, I would want to have a day of paying it forward. Everyone would have to do something nice for someone else!

D9Sports: What is your ideal place to live? County, City, Suburb? Why?
TN: I love living out in the country. I like the quiet and nature.

D9Sports: What would someone who doesn’t know you be surprised to find out about you?
TN: If someone didn’t know me, they would quickly find out how competitive I am with everything. I constantly view everything as a challenge and am super competitive.

D9Sports: What is your strongest subject in school?
TN: My strongest subject in school is the health and anatomy classes. I absolutely love them.

D9Sports: If there was one period in history or one event in history you could go back to, what would it be?
TN: If I could go back to a specific time period, I would go back to the 1990s because of how awesome the USA Olympic sports teams were. It would be cool to watch them.
