The Chuck’s grappler will make his first trip to Hershey. He won the District 4/9 3A Individual Championship last week (Feb. 17-18).

Augenbaugh started off his tournament with back-to-back third-period falls, first pinning Donovan Neavins of Erie McDowell (5:55) and then sticking Selinsgrove sophomore Ryan Harpster (4:15).

The DuBois grappler’s run on the championship side of the bracket came to an end in the semifinals, where he was pinned in the second period by eventual runner-up Dalton Perry of Central Mountain (2:19).

In the wrestlebacks, Augenbaugh took a 17-2 technical fall (4:50) against State College’s Jacob Campell and then secured third place with a 2-0 decision over Meadville’s Jacoby Campbell in the consolation finals.

This is Augenbaugh’s first time qualifying for states, his previous best finish at regionals a fourth coming as a freshman. Augenbaugh was runner-up last week at the District 4/9 tournament, an event he won in 2021 and 2023.

Beaver’s 285-pounder Ja’Reece Stowe, a senior, just missed qualifying for the state tournament, losing to Jack Peters of Selinsgrove, 6-0, in the consolation finals.

DuBois had three advance to within one match of competing for a trip to states—127-pounder Samson Deeb and 172-pounder Carter Wilson losing in the consolation semifinals.

Deeb and Wilson won both won their placement bouts, earning fifths.

DuBois had six others who advanced from last week’s District 4/9 tournament that did not place.

Punxsutawney’s Dysen Gould, who will wrestle collegiately next year at American University, lost in the 121-pound “blood round,” coming within one match of wrestling for a spot at the state tournament. He ultimately finished sixth.

Five other Chucks grapplers competed at the regional tournament, but did not place.

Bradford was represented at regionals by a pair of wrestlers, though both fell short of placing.

In the team race, DuBois was the highest placed District 9 team, coming home 10th in the 22-team field with 77.0 points.

Punxsutawney (38.5 points) was 14th overall and Bradford (6.0 points) tied for 20th.

Central Mountain was the dominant squad at regionals, advancing seven to the state tournament, including five regional champions.

The Wildcats won the team event, their 177.0 points 55 better than Mifflin County (155.0 points), the Huskies second despite not having an event champion. Mifflin County is, however, sending six to the state tournament.

Shikellamy (153.0 points) was third – the Braves producing one champion, with four grapplers headed to Hershey.
