BROCKWAY, Pa. – The third time was the charm for the Punxsutawney volleyball team.
After losing twice to DuBois in the regular season, the Lady Chucks made it count when it mattered the most knocking off the Lady Beavers, 3-0, in straight sets to win the District 9 3A volleyball championship Saturday afternoon at Brockway High School.
Punxsy grabbed the first set 25-20 then took the second set 25-21 before rolling to the championship with a 25-13 win the third set.
Leah Miller led Punxsutawney with 11 kills and four blocks, while Chelsea Snyder added six kills and four digs and Hanna Ebel five kills and two digs.
Midori Bridges ran the offense for the Lady Chucks with 18 set assists, and Mia Lingenfelter added a team-high nine digs. Grace Neal also chipped in five digs for Punxsy.
The Lady Chucks will meet the WPIAL champion in the opening round of the PIAA playoffs Tuesday.
