Redbank Valley, Kane Moved into D9 2A Volleyball Title Game

A year ago, Kane and Redbank Valley engaged in a classic five-set District 9 Class 2A championship match won by Redbank Valley, 3-2.

Area volleyball fans will get a rematch of that championship at 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Marys High School after both squads won semifinal matches Wednesday.

Redbank Valley handled Karns City, 3-0, while Kane had to come from behind to beat Brookville, 3-2.

Here is a look at both matches:

REDBANK VALLEY 3, KARNS CITY 0

NEW BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Emily Gourley had 14 kills and five blocks to lead Redbank Valley to the 3-0 (25-21, 25-20, 25-22) win over Karns City.

Josie Rupp added 10 kills, three aces and a block for the top-seeded Lady Bulldogs, while Jordan Milliron had four aces, Kristen Shaffer 18 digs, Shylie Shreckengost 12 digs and Tara Hinderliter 19 set assists.

Emily Hegedus paced fourth-seeded Karns City with seven kills with Makayla Waltman and Emma Clark each adding four kills, Rayna Miller three kills and Emily Wolfe two kills.

Alyssa Stitt ran the offense for the Lady Gremlins with 20 set assists.

KANE 3, BROOKVILLE 2

KANE, Pa. – Down two sets to one, Kane, the second seed, rallied to top visiting Brookville, the third seed, 3-2 (25-16, 14-25, 16-25, 25-21, 15-12).

Trinity Clark had a monster game for the Lady Wolves with 25 kills, including six in the crucial fifth set, and 22 digs, while Ella Marconi added 18 kills, 10 digs and three blocks. Audri Marconi chipped in four kills and seven blocks.

Emma Ely and Lexi Wood were stellar on defense for Kane with 10 digs apiece, while Hannah Buhl ran the offense with 46 set assists.

Brookville grabbed the lead thanks to great serving that saw the Lady Raiders record 19 aces led by Kira Powell’s six aces, while Madison Johnson and Morgan Johnson each had three aces.

Olivia Pearson led Brookville with 17 kills and eight blocks, while Powell added seven kills and Mikayla Aikins three kills and three blocks.
