GIRLS’ SOCCER

Smethport 3, Kane 2

The Kane Lady Wolves soccer team kicked off the season on Tuesday night against the rival Smethport Hubbers. Coming into the game both sides knew the contest would be tight as last year’s two meetings were both decided by one goal. Action went back and forth, and both teams displayed some early rust in the season opener. With approximately ten minutes remaining in the first half the Lady Wolves were able to get on the board. Tori Schleicher and Sydney Huntzinger were able to work the ball down field, and Kennedy Detsch was able to put in the rebound shot. The Lady Wolves had a 1-0 halftime lead. The Lady Hubbers came out in a fury as they scored two goals in the opening five minutes of the second half but Tori Schleicher from Kane answered with a goal of her own to tie the score. Play was intense down the stretch, and there were scoring opportunities for both teams. A free kick was awarded to the Hubbers with just under two minutes remaining and Smethport senior Alexis Horning was able to find the back of the net for the game winner. First year players Caitlyn O’Hara, Raejonna Pascarella, Ally Peterson, Sydney Huntzinger, and Laurel West all saw valuable time for the Lady Wolves. Coach Mosier and Coach Johnson were pleased with the effort from the team. When it comes down to one goal at the end it is a tough way to lose but that happens in the game of soccer. Kane will be back in action on Thursday afternoon as they travel to Keystone.
