Six D9 Class 2A Wrestlers Advance to Semifinals; Three Others Earn Medals

HERSHEY, Pa. – Six District 9 Class 2A wrestlers advanced to the semifinals with victories Friday morning/afternoon, while three others earned medals through the consolation bracket.

The Class 3A bouts are on-going as of this writing.

Moving into the semifinals Friday were Cayden Walter of Brookville at 106 pounds, Owen Reinsel of Brookville at 113 pounds, Anthony Glasl of Brockway at 132 pounds, Zach Holland of Curwensville at 138 pounds, Nathan Taylor of Brookville at 220 pounds and Colby Whitehill of Brookville at 285 pounds. They will all wrestle for spots in the championship bout Friday night. All six have also claimed medals.

Wrestlers earned medals by winning in the consolation round Friday afternoon include Teddy Race of Kane at 170 pounds, Ethan Finch of Sheffield at 182 pounds and Eric Johnson of Brockway at 195 pounds.

Six District 9 wrestlers were eliminated from the competition during the first session Friday.

Here is a quick glance at each weight class with a District 9 wrestler still in it.

106 pounds: Cayden Walter of Brookville beat Deven Jackon of West Perry, 4-0, in the quarterfinals and will wrestle Branden Wentzel of Montoursville in the semifinals.

113 pounds: Owen Reinsel of Brookville defeated Easton Toth of Forest Hills, 7-2, and will wrestle Joey Fischer of South Park in the semifinals; Bryent Johnson of Port Allegany (Smethport student) beat Deegan Ross of Lackawanna Trail, 8-6, in the consolation bracket before being eliminated by Kai Burkett of Chestnut Ridge, 5-4.

120 pounds: Brayden Kumselman of Brookville was eliminated by Cooper Gilham of Bald Eagle Area, 4-2 in sudden victory.

126 pounds: Braedon Johnson of Port Allegany (Smethport student) beat David Kreidler of Allentown Central Catholic, 6-4 in sudden victory, in the consolation round before being eliminated, 9-0 major decision, by Noah Frack of Brandywine Heights.

132 pounds: Anthony Glasl of Brockway beat Noah Teeter of Forest Hills, 8-0 major decision, in the quarterfinals and will wrestle Ian Oswalt of Burrell in the semifinals.

138 pounds: Zach Holland of Curwensville beat Jacob Jones of Saucon Valley, 1-0, in the quarterfinals and will wrestle unbeaten Kaden Cassidy of Bedford in the semifinals.

145 pounds: Ethan Wiant of Redbank Valley was eliminated by Tristan Pugh of Berlin Brothersvalley, 11-0 major decision.

152 pounds: Aiden Zimmermand lost by fall at 1:01 to Wesley Barnes of Southern Columbia in the quarterfinals and then lost by fall at 4:05 to Ryan Weyandt of Forest Hills in the consolation bracket to be eliminated.

160 pounds: Noah Bash of Brockway was eliminated by Anthony Miccio of Wilson Area, 6-4; Cole Casilio of Johnsonburg won, 8-2, over Ethan Barr of McGuffey in the consolation bracket before being eliminated by Isaac Cory of Montoursville, 6-1.

170 pounds: Tedd Race of Kane lost in the quarterfinals, 4-2, to Trent Schultheis of Freedom Area before beating Drake Gindlesperger of Meyersdale, 3-1, in the consolation bracket to earn a medal. He will wrestle Cade Linn of Southern Columbia next.

182 pounds: Ethan Finch of sheffield beat Myler Barney of Huntingdon, 4-2, in the consolation bracket then beat Jacob Feese of Lin Mountain by fall at 1:53 to earn a medal. He will wrestle Nate Wickersham of Tamaqua next.

195 pounds: Eric Johnson of Brockway beat Dominick Birdi of Line Mountain, 12-6, in the consolation bracket then beat Tanner Dluhois of Westmont Hilltop, 6-1, to earn a medal and will wrestle Marshall Van Tassell of Union City next.

220 pounds: Nathan Taylor of Brookville beat Jake Ryan of Mount Union by fall at 3:09 in the quarterfinals and will wrestle Cameron Wood of Montoursville in the semifinals.

285 pounds: Colby Whitehill of Brookville, the defending state champion, beat Riley Kemper of Burgettstown, 8-0 major decision, in the quarterfinals and will wrestle Bronson Strouse of Tamaqua in the semifinals.
