Baseball Recaps
St. Marys 3, Brookville 1
A strong pitching performance Connor Bressler powered St. Marys to a 3-1 victory over Brookville. Bressler pitched 6 2/3 innings for the Flying Dutch, giving up only one run on five hits and a walk while striking out seven to nab the win. After navigating out of a one-out, bases-loaded jam in the first, Bressler cruised through the rest of the contest, running out of pitches with one out to go. Bressler also had two hits for St. Marys, scoring one of their three runs.
The Dutch scored the first runs of the game in the bottom of the third via a two-out single by Garrett Bauer. Errors were the story of the inning, as two Brookville miscues put both of the scoring runners on base. St. Marys would tack on another run in the fifth, with Bauer driving home his third run of the game on another single. Brookville would score one in the seventh to cut the lead to two, but St. Marys reliever Alex Vollmer would tag Carter Kessler out at the plate to end the game and secure the 3-1 win.
Bauer led St. Marys at the dish, going 2-for-3 with all three RBI. Hunter Geer went 2-for-3 for Brookville, and Jace Miner went 1-for-4 with the Raiders’ lone RBI of the contest. Despite a solid outing, Geer took the loss for Brookville, pitching five innings and giving up three runs (one earned).
Clarion Area 12, Cranberry 1
A fantastic outing by Ryan Alston and a big night at the dish from Cole Slaugenhoup delivered Clarion their first win of the season, ousting Cranberry 12-1 in six innings.
Alston pitched five innings, surrendering a lone unearned run and four hits while striking out four to nab the win. Alston also had a hot night at the plate, going 3-for-3 with two walks. Slaugenhoup paced the Bobcats at the plate, going 4-for-5 with five RBI for Clarion, including a fourth-inning home run.
