Thrush heads D9 athletes at 19th DeMans T& F Invite

BROOKVILLE, Pa. — Brookville’s Ryan Thrush won three events and highlighted Saturday’s 19th Annual DeMans Sports Track and Field Invitational that featured 17 teams, most from District 9, at Brookville Area High School.

Thrush won the 100-, 200- and 400-meter dashes, breaking a meet record in the 400 with his time of 49.26 seconds. He won the Clint Puller Memorial Award for the meet’s outstanding boys’ performer.

Of the 18 boys’ events, 13 were won by District 9 athletes. Also winning from D9 were the Elk County Catholic 4×800 relay, Antonio Stello of Punxsutawney in the 100 dash, Jared Kespelher of Redbank Valley in the 110 hurdles, the Brookville 4×100 relay of Brandon McGranor, Bryan Dworek, Ian Thrush and John Frank, Bryce Baker of Port Allegany in the 300 hurdles, Zachary Wortman of Elk County Catholic in the 3,200 run, Seth Ray of Brookville in the long and triple jumps, Tom Bojalad of St. Marys in the shot put and Austin Labesky of Kane in the javelin.

Marion Center’s Emily Risinger won the Puller Award for the girls after winning the 200 and 400 dashes and running a leg on the winning 4×400 relay.

D9 girls also won 13 events with Elk County Catholic’s Taylor Newton winning the 100 hurdles and high jump. Also for ECC, Maddie Kear won the long jump and Cassidy Cunningham won the shot put.

Johnsonburg’s Madeline Cowan won the 100 dash and ran a leg on the winning 4×100 relay with Erica Delullo, Amanda Williams and Cassidy King. St. Marys got wins in the distance races from Michelle Bauer in the 3,200 run and Amanda Foster in the 1,600 run. Kane’s Caitlin O’Hara won the 300 hurdles, Cameron County’s Kamme Guisto won the triple jump, Port Allegany’s Mauley Fox took the pole vault, Coudersport’s Adrian Page won the discus and Kane’s Trinity Clark won the javelin.
