CURWENSVILLE 44, REDBANK VALLEY 30

CURWESNVILLE, Pa. – Nick Stewart rushed for 144 yards and three touchdowns on 19 carries, as Curwensville beat Redbank Valley 44-30 in a rare non-conference showdown between two of the the Allegheny Grille of Foxburg Top 10 teams Friday night at Riverside Stadium.

Jakob Terry added a pair of touchdown passes for the Golden Tide (5-1) and was 16 of 26 for 197 yards passing while also throwing an interception.

Curwensville, ranked 10th in the Allegheny Grille of Foxburg D9sports.com Rankings, led 30-8 midway through the second quarter before Redbank Valley, ranked sixth, rallied to close the gap to 30-24 at halftime. But that was as close as the Bulldogs (4-2) got.

Hunter Johnson added 13 carries for 84 yards and a touchdown for Curwensville, while Quamone Newkirk had nine catches for 115 yards and a score. Stewart, who scored on runs of 12, 32 and 19 yards, added three catches for 26 yards.

Connor Shoemaker was 16 of 25 for 288 yards and two touchdowns to go with an interception for Redbank Valley. He added a rushing touchdown and had 14 yards on 18 carries.

Wyatt Hetrick pulled in one of those scores and had six catches for 122 yards, while Nick Shoemaker had five grabs for 68 yards and a touchdown. Colten Mohney ran 10 times for 51 yards and a scores and had three catches for 49 yards.

PORT ALLEGANY 26, COUDERSPORT 12

PORT ALLEGANY, Pa. – Two straight touchdowns after halftime helped Port Allegany break a 6-all tie at the break and get a 26-12 win over visiting Coudersport in a key AML North matchup Friday night.

With the game knotted at six, Dylan Baumgardner scored on a 10-yard run with 4:45 left in the third quarter, and then Mac Tanner scored on a 3-yard run to put the Gators (3-3 overall, 2-0 AML North), winner of three straight, up 20-6.

Coudersport got back to within eight, 20-12, on a 40-yard Darren Keglovits to Aaron Wolfinger touchdown pass with 9:25 to go, but Tanner put the game away on an 11-yard run with 2:45 to go.

Tanner scored three times on the ground, as his 21-yard run halfway through the second quarter tied the game at six. He ran 24 times for 142, while Tre Garzel was 10 of 17 passing for 123 yards. Baumgardner had three catches for 81 yards and ran ran five times for 25 yards and the score.

Zach Laytag gave Coudersport an early lead with a 20-yard touchdown run 33 seconds into the second quarter.

Keglovits was 10 of 23 for 89 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions.

Wolfinger had one catch for 40 yards and a touchdown while running 10 times for 31 yards.

KANE 21, BROCKWAY 14

BROCKWAY, Pa. – Tyler Rolick’s 72-yard return of a blocked field goal try with a minute to play in the third quarter broke a 14-all tie and gave Kane a 21-14 win over Brockway in a Top 10 Allegheny Grille of Foxburg D9Sports.com District 9 rankings Friday night in Brockway.

Kane (6-0), ranked No. 3, got a pair of Shane Rolick touchdown runs in the first half, while No. 7 Brockway (4-2), scored on a 65-yard Hunter Miller to Andrew Trunzo touchdown pass and a 17-yard Mark Latuska scoring run, the later with 42 seconds left in the half.

Shane Rolick ran 13 times for 126 yards and the two scores, while Tyler Rolick had 78 yards on 17 carries. Shane Rolick was also 3 of 7 passing for 20 yards and two picks. Tyler Rolick added two catches for 15 yards.  

Miller was 15 of 18 passing for 197 yards and a touchdown while adding 24 yards rushing on 17 carries. Latuska had 19 carries for 86 yards and the touchdown, Trunzo had four grabs for 85 yards and the score with Jake Gorham adding five catches for 48 yards.     

ELK COUNTY CATHOLIC 21, RIDGWAY 14

RIDGWAY, Pa. – Call them the comeback kids.

Trailing by seven at halftime and by one as the third quarter closed, Elk County Catholic went on an 18-play, 95-yard drive that took up over seven minutes and finished with a 12-yard Noah Werner touchdown run, his third rushing score of the game, with 5:56 to play to keep the Crusaders unbeaten with a 21-14 win at Ridgway.

With ECC down 14-7 at halftime, Werner, who scored the game’s  first touchdown on a 3-yard run early in the second quarter, found pay dirt with a 3-yard run midway through the third quarter to get the Crusaders (6-0), ranked fourth in the Allegheny Grille of Foxburg D9Sports.com rankings, to within a point.

The ECC defense then forced a Ridgway punt which was downed at the Crusader 5-yard line. From there the ECC offensive line took over with 16 of the 18 plays on the drive coming on the ground including 10 carries by Werner, who had 54 of his game-high 175 yards – on 36 carries – on the drive. The biggest play of the drive, though, may have been a third-and-7 pass from the ECC 8-yard line 14-yard pass from Nate DaCanal to Eric Gerber on just the third play of the drive. DaCanal also ran the ball four times on the drive for 20 yards, as the Crusaders picked up four third-down conversions on the drive.

Werner added one catch for seven yards to his rushing total.

Ridgway (3-3), losers of three straight took the 14-7 lead at the break thanks to a 21-yard Neal MacDonald touchdown run and an interception return for a score by Andy Breier with 2:20 left in the half.

MacDonald ran four times for a team-best 44 yards.

MONITEAU 10, CLARION 0

WEST SUNBURY, Pa. – Derek Boben ran for 131 yards and a touchdown, and Moniteau shutout Clarion for the first time since 1970 upsetting the visiting Bobcats 10-0 Friday night.

The Warriors (2-4), who are just 9-34 all-time vs. Clarion, hadn’t given up zero points to the Bobcats since a 22-0 win in 1970. It also marked the first time Clarion (4-2), who was ranked fifth in the Allegheny Grille of Foxburg D9Sports.com Rankings, had been shutout since 2010, and the first time the Bobcats had been shutout on the road in a regular-season game vs. a District 9 opponent since 2002.

Boben scored on a 24-yard run in the second quarter, and Stephen Fawcett added a 29-yard field goal for the Warriors.

ST. MARYS 28, CLARION-LIMESTONE 20

ST. MARYS, Pa. – A pair of second-half touchdowns and a late defensive stand lifted St. Marys, ranked eighth in the Allegheny Grille of Foxburg D9Sports.com Rankings, to a 28-20 come-from-behind win over visiting Clarion-Limestone Friday night at Dutch Country Stadium.

Pat Schlimm threw a 24-yard touchdown pass to Nick Cunningham with 4:25 to go in the third quarter to give the Dutch (5-1) the lead, 21-20, and Matt Marconi added a 28-yard touchdown run early in the fourth quarter to give St. Marys some breathing room.

But C-L (3-3), which scored on three Anthony Louder touchdown passes, had a chance late taking over inside its own 10-yard line and driving to the St. Marys 9-yard line where it had first-and-goal. But the Dutch defense stiffened and pressured Louder into a short desperation pass on fourth down to get the ball back at its own 5-yard line.

Nathan Straub then picked up a game-sealing first down on a third-down run with about a minute to play.

Louder had a monster game in the loss for the Lions (3-3) going 21 of 33 passing for 339 yards and the three scores while also throwing an interception. Brady Himes had eight catches for 166 yards and two touchdowns. Sam Leadbetter (5 catches, 61 yards) also caught acscoring pass from Louder.

Christian Steffan scored twice on the ground in the first half for St. Marys on runs of 21 and 5 yards and rushed 13 times for 72 yards. Marconi added 11 carries for 58 yards, and Straub had 10 carries for 49 yards.

Schlimm was 7 of 10 passing for 73 yards and the score. Brady Bauer had five grabs for 39 yards and also intercepted a pass on defense.   

DUBOIS 44, OIL CITY 34

OIL CITY, Pa. – In a game that featured five lead changes and a tie, DuBois rode the legs of Braden Paulinellie and the arm of Matt Miller to beat Oil City, 44-34, in come-from-behind fashion Friday night in a District 10 Region 5 showdown at Oil City.

Paulinellie ran 32 times for 189 yards and four touchdowns, and Miller was 18 of 29 passing for 329 yards, two touchdowns and an interception for the Beavers (3-3, 1-2 Region 5), winner of two in a row and ranked ninth in the Allegheny Grille of Foxburg D9Sports.com Rankings.

After holding early leads of 7-0 and 13-7, DuBois found itself trailing 28-13 midway through the second quarter before cutting the Oil City lead to 28-27 at the break thanks to a 70-yard Miller to Dante Dawson touchdown pass and an 11-yard Paulinellie run, his third of the game.

Jared Meinert then gave the Beavers the lead with a 36-yard field goal with 7:09 left in the third quarter before Oil City went back ahead, 34-30, on a Jackson McFall 1-yard touchdown run.

But Miller hit Dawson, who had six catches for 157 yards and two touchdowns, with a 14-yard scoring pass with 3:29 to play in the third quarter to put DuBois back in the lead for good. Paulinellie, who also had two catches for 26 yards, then put the finishing touches on the game with a 7-yard scoring run with 1:01 to play in the game.

McFall had a big game for Oil City (3-3, 2-1) rushing 10 times for 29 yards and the touchdown and going 18 of 46 passing for 368 yards and three touchdowns while throwing two picks. Mo Hadley had eight catches for 265 yards and two scores while Hunter Merwin added three catches for 105 yards and a touchdown while adding 25 yards rushing on seven carries.

CAMERON COUNTY 44, SHEFFIELD 8

EMPORIUM, Pa. – Caleb Burnside ran 14 times for 226 yards and two touchdowns while also returning an interception for a score to give Cameron County its first win of the season, 44-8, over visiting Sheffield.

Burnside scored on runs of 58 and 60 yards and returned a Cale Albaugh interception 66 yards for the game’s second score.

Derek Rieder added a 24-yard touchdown pass to Jordan Crosby, Tristan Reed scored on a 1-yard run and Ethan Vislay also returned an interception 14 yards for a touchdown for the Red Raiders (1-5).

Albaugh, who was 2-for-14 for 37 yards with three picks, threw a 22-yard touchdown pass to Logan Connolly late in the game for Sheffield’s lone score.

Myquandre Stevenson led the Wolverines (0-6) with 62 yards rushing on 17 carries.  

KARNS CITY 44, UNION 0

RIMERSBURG, Pa. – Collin Dunmyre ran for 66 yards and two touchdown, and Cullen Williams threw for a touchdown and ran for a touchdown as the Allegheny Grille of Foxburg D9Sports.com No. 1 ranked team, Karns City, blew past Union 44-0 Friday night in Rimersburg.

Williams ran for 40 yards and passed for 89. while Evan Stitt had six catches for 112 yards and a touchdown, and Trevor Scott also added a 24-yard touchdown catch.

Karns City limited Union to 66 yards of total offense.

KEYSTONE 21, BROOKVILLE 0  

KNOX, Pa. – Brayden Shick ran for a touchdown and threw for a score, as Keystone evened its record at 3-3 while breaking a 3-game losing streak with a 21-0 win over visiting Brookville Friday night.

Shick, who was 11 of 15 passing for 94 yards with a touchdown and an interception scored on a 16-yard run – thanks to sacks he finished with negative one on the ground – and threw a 15-yard scoring pass to Ethan Fleeger to give the Panthers a 14-0 halftime lead.

Jake Weaver, who ran 25 times for 149 yards, added a 27-yard touchdown run late in the third quarter.

Keystone’s defense limited Brookville to 27 yards of total offense including negative one on the ground on 30 carries. John Frank led the Raiders (1-5) with 24 yards on six carries.

FRANKLIN  56, BRADFORD 21

BRADFORD, Pa. – Zak Lynn ran for 240 yards and two touchdowns, Port Rembold threw for 229 yards and three scores and Kahil West had 175 yards receiving and two touchdowns and added a kickoff return for a score to lead visiting Franklin to a 56-21 win at Bradford Friday night.

Lynn, who ran 13 times, scored on runs of 12 and 15 yards in the first half, while Rembold was 17 of 24 passing and hit West with scoring passes of 13 and 14 yards while throwing a 41-yard touchdown pass to Rayquan Gray-Law for the Knights (4-2, 1-2 D10 Region 5). West caught 13 passes for 175 yards, added the 86-yard kickoff return for a score and picked off a pass on defense.

Mitchell Vleminckx, Alex Colosimo and Bryce Skaggs scored for Bradford (0-6, 0-3).

Vleminckx scored on a 23-yard run and finished with 96 yards rushing on 10 carries.

Colosimo found the end zone on an 11-yard run and ran 10 times for 54 yards while adding an interception on defense, and Skaggs caught a 31-yard touchdown pass from Kyle Kirk and had four catches for 89 yards. Kirk was 7 of 13 passing for 151 yards, a touchdown and an interception.   

Franklin outgained Bradford 570 to 327.

SMETHPORT 20, OTTO-ELDRED 0

SMETHPORT, Pa. – Adam Shunk ran for 287 yards and a touchdown to pace Smethport to a 20-0 win over visiting Otto-Eldred in AML North action Friday night.

Shunk, who has run for 641 yards in the Hubbers’ last three games, scored on a 12-yard run early in the fourth quarter that gave Smethport (2-4, 2-0 AML North) a 12-0 lead.

Kevin Long – 1-yard run – and Jimmy Duffy – 3-yard run – also scored for the Hubbers, who gained 379 yards of offense.

The shutout win was the first for Smethport since blanking Otto-Eldred 40-0 Oct. 29, 2010.

CLEARFIELD 42, BELLEFONTE 7

BELLEFONTE, Pa. – Seth Caldwell ran for three touchdowns to lead Clearfield to a 42-7 win at Bellefonte in Mountain League play Friday night.

Caldwell, who ran for 154 yards on 17 carries, scored on a pair of 4-yard runs and a 10-yard scamper.

Cody Spaid added a pair of touchdown passes hitting Jake Wingate with a 66-yard pass and Travis Ogden with a 19-yard toss, and Ryan Lezzer chipped in a 50-yard scoring run for the Allegheny Grille of Foxburg D9Sports.com No. 2 Bison (5-1, 4-0 Mountain League).

Spaid was 5 of 10 passing for 106 yards, while Lezzer ran for 127 yards and the touchdown on seven carries and added two catches for 15 yards.

Bellefonte’s lone score came on a 13-yard Mark Armstrong to Dylan Detrich touchdown pass late in the first quarter. The Red Raiders (1-5) were limited to just 106 yards of total offense.

PUNXSUTAWNEY 23, A-C VALLEY 6

FOXBURG, Pa. – Ryan Jones threw for 143 yards and two touchdowns and ran for 59 yards to help Punxsutawney ward off an upset attempt by A-C Valley with a 23-6 road win Friday night in Foxburg.

The Chucks (3-3) led by the odd score of 2-0 at halftime but outscored the winless Falcons (0-6) 21-6 in the second half to pull away.

Jones was 10 of 20 passing while also tossing an interception. His touchdowns went to Ethan Riley, who have five catches for 87 yards, and Devin Kelly, who added three grabs for 45 yards. Riley also scored a rushing touchdown and ran three times for 74 yards, while Kelly added six carries for 15 yards.

Joey Dipierto continued his solid play picking off a pass on defense and also rushing 10 times for 73 yards.

 

Lane Chalmers ran seven times for 102 yards and a touchdown to pace A-C Valley, while Eric Pirl added 66 yards on the ground on 20 totes. Evan Redding had 10 tackles, including one for a loss while also picking off a pass. Pirl added nine stops.
