12-11 BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Karns City Boys Hang on to Beat North East; A-C Valley’s Chalmers Enjoys Huge Night

FOXBURG, Pa. (EYT/D9) – Karns City couldn’t have asked for a better start to the season.

After rolling past Portersville Christian School Friday at the Hoops for Heroes Kickoff at A-C Valley, the Gremlins’ boys basketball team found itself in a tussle with North East.

It was the first real test of the season for Karns City and first-year coach Zach Kepple.

The Gremlins passed.

Luke Cramer, coming off his 24-point performance Friday, scored 14 – six coming in a pivotal third quarter – and Micah Rupp added nine points and 10 rebounds as Karns City came away with a 48-47 win.

The Gremlins (2-0) led 36-25 after three quarters, but North East whittled away at that lead in the fourth, cutting it to four with less and 10 seconds to play.

The Grape Pickers hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer to make it a one-point win for the Gremlins.

Cole Sherwin added 10 points for Karns City.

Ryan Mayes scored 20 to lead North East.

A-C VALLEY 68, PORTERSVILLE CHRISTIAN 44 – Landon Chalmers had a monster night for the Falcons.

Chalmers scored 24 points and also had 19 rebounds as A-C Valley rolled.

Chalmers scored 16 points in the first half as the Falcons (1-1) raced out to a 40-27 lead.

Alex Preston pitched in 13 points and Jay Clover 11 points and 10 rebounds. Ryan Cooper had nine assists.

CLARION 59, COCHRANTON 50 – Christian Simko scored 18 points as the Bobcats bounced back from a season-opening loss.

Clarion opened the game with a 23-point first quarter and led 34-20 at the half.

Dawson Smail chipped in nine points and Devon Lauer eight for the Bobcats (1-1).

UNION 51, BROCKWAY 32 – Caden Rainey poured in 22 points and Dawson Camper pulled down 17 rebounds as the Golden Knights toppled the Rovers.

Skyler Roxbury added nine points and Payton Johnston eight for Union (1-1). Camper scored seven points to go with his big night on the boards.

Noah Adams led Brockway with 14 points.

GIRLS

Caylen Rearick and Madison Forringer each scored 16 points as Redbank Valley (2-0) jumped out to a 32-4 lead in the first half on the way to a 67-8 rout of Iroquois.

Mylee Harmon added 14 points and and Clarie Clouse 11 for the balanced Bulldogs’ attack.

KARNS CITY 57, A-C VALLEY 16 – Emma Dailey scored 17 points as the Gremlins rolled past the Falcons.

Camryn Booher added nine points as 11 Karns City players scored.

Mackenzie Parks led A-C Valley with seven points.

CLARION-LIMESTONE 51, CLEARFIELD 45 – Alex Leadbetter lead the way with 16 points as the Lions survived a Clearfield comeback to eke out the victory.

C-L led by double-digits in the second half only to watch the Bison erase that deficit.

Frances Milliron added 11 points and Kendall Dunn and Alyssa Wiant 10 each for Clarion-Limestone.

CLARION 42, MONITEAU 36 – Jordan Best scored a game-high 20 points to lead the Bobcats past the Warriors at the Brockway tournament.

Gia Babington added 11 points for Clarion.

Catherine Kelly paced Moniteau with 14 points.

NORTH CLARION 51, BROOKVILLE 21 – Gwen Siegel scored 14 points to lead the Wolves.

Madison McFarland pitched in 11 for North Clarion.
