4/12/18 Softball: Cline Homer Helps Clearfield to Win Powered by Knox Country Farm Supply

HYDE, Pa. – Brooke Cline hit a two-out, three-run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning to erase a two-run deficit and help Clearfield to a 9-7 win over visiting Penns Valley.

The Lady Bison trailed 7-5 in the sixth when Karly Rumsky doubled with one out to put runners at second and third. But Erica Hanes struck out bringing up the senior Cline, who took the first pitch she saw over the center-field fence to put Clearfield in the lead. The Lady Bison then added an insurance run on a Makayla Ross double, and Hanes worked around a two-out walk in the top of the seventh to secure the win.

Cline was 2-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored, while Aspen Bishop went 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored and Ross 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. Abby Fedder added a pair of RBIs and a run scored for Clearfield with Lindsay Hand chipping in two hits and an RBI.

Hanes got the win in relief of Fedder going two innings allowing a hit and a walk while striking out two. Fedder went five innings giving up seven runs, three earned, on nine hits and a walk while striking out six.

PUNXSUTAWNEY 2, ST. MARYS 1, 10 INNINGS

PUNXSUTAWNEY, Pa. – Holly Hartman’s walk-off single in the bottom of the 10th plated Sara Weaver with the game-winning run, as Punxsutawney outlasted visiting St. Marys, 2-1.

Kylee Lingenfelter was strong in the circle allowing one run on one hit and two walks while striking out 15.

Maura Fledderman and Brianna Grotzinger teamed up in the circle to keep St. Marys in the game.

Fledderman started and went the first three innings striking out six without giving up a run. Grotzinger then came in in the fourth and fifth innings allowing a run while striking out one before Fledderman reentered in the sixth and finished the game taking the loss.

St. Marys scored first in the second inning when Britney Shaw came home on an RBI bunt single by Lauren Eckert.

Punxsutawney evened the game in the fourth when Madison Stonebraker singled home pinch runner Jessica Lisa.

DUBOIS 14, ALTOONA 0

ALTOONA, Pa. – Sarah Snyder tossed a one-hitter to lift visiting DuBois to a 14-0 win at Altoona.

Snyder walked one and struck out seven.

DuBois had 15 hits in the game led by Kaylee Sadowski who was 3-for-4 and Maddie Ho who was 2-for-2.

SMETHPORT 12, CAMERON COUNTY 4

EMPORIUM, Pa. – Sam Tanner hit a pair of home runs to help visiting Smethport to a 12-4 win over Cameron County.

Tanner hit a solo shot in the second innings and a two-run homer in the third, an inning that saw Smethport score six runs.

Alana Druphy also went deep for the Lady Hubbers with a two-run shot in the third, while Abbey Woodard had a double and Kiara Orner a triple.

Emily Treat got the win allowing four runs on eight hits and seven walks while striking out six.

Laila Smith went 3-for-4 for Cameron County with Amily Schatz adding a double.

Smith took the loss allowing 12 runs on 14 hits and three walks while striking out 11.

PORT ALLEGANY 8, COUDERSPORT 7, 9 INNINGS

COUDERSPORT, Pa. – Bree Garzel’s bunt in the ninth inning scored Cailey Barnett to give visiting Port Allegany an 8-7 win over Coudersport.

The Lady Gators led 5-0 before Coudy tied the game. Port Allegany then went ahead again before the Lady Falcons tied the game at seven.

In the ninth, Garzell put down the bunt and Barnett waited until the throw was made before scoring.

Kierra Keck led the Lady Gators going 4-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs. Makenzie Burr added a 4-for-5 day with a pair of RBIs and Barnett was 2-for-5 with a double.

Burr got the win going the distance giving up seven runs on 11 hits, a walk and a hit batter while striking out nine.

Shaelyn Black was 1-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs for Coudersport with Paiton Whipple going 2-for-5 with a double and Erica Williams 2-for-3 with a double.

Madison Smith took the loss allowing eight runs on 10 hits and five walks while striking out nine.

PORTVILLE (N.Y.) 10, OTTO-ELDRED 0

DUKE CENTER, Pa. – Haley Unverdorben was 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs to lead Portville (N.Y.) to a 10-0 win over Otto-Eldred at O-E.

 

Jan Howard was also 2-for-4 with a triple, Carly Welty 2-for-4 and Poper Slocum added a double for Portville.

Syd Colligan got the win allowing four hits and five walks while striking out 11.

Alyssa Shelander took the loss allowing 10 runs on 11 hits and three walks while striking out four.
