4/30/18 Softball Wrap: Karns City Tops Clarion; Day Filled With High-Scoring Games Powered by Knox Country Farm Supply

CLARION, Pa. – Kate Allen and Alyssa Stitt combined to score five runs, and Logan Byers threw a strong 5 ⅔ innings in the circle to lift Karns City to an 8-2 win at Clarion.

Allen was 3-for-4 with a double and three runs scored for the Lady Gremlins with Stitt going 3-for-4 with a double and two runs scored. Emily Huff was also 2-for-3 with an RBI.

Allen talked about the victory.

Byers, meanwhile, pitched 5 ⅔ innings allowing two runs on four hits and four walks while striking out eight. Mackenzie Shay came on and got the final four outs without allowing a hit and striking out one.

Brenna Campbell had a pair of RBIs for Clarion with Sadie Rudesyle walking three times.

Rudesyle took the loss allowing seven runs, three earned, on eight hits and four walks while striking out four in six innings of work. Alexis Constantino gave up one run on two hits in an inning of relief.

A-C VALLEY SWEEPS BY CLARION-LIMESTONE

STRATTANVILLE, Pa. – A-C Valley swept a doubleheader at Clarion-Limestone winning by scores of 12-9 and 11-9.

In the first game, Emily Wetzel and Cami McNany were both 4-for-5 for the Lady Falcons with Wetzel picking up a triple, an RBI and four runs scored and McNany hitting a two-run home run and a double while scoring four times and driving in two. Kylee Eaton was also 3-for-3 with a pair of doubles and an RBI with Syd Schmidt going 2-for-4 with a run scored and Andrea Meal 2-for-5.

Sadie Mahle was 3-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored for C-L with Abby Carll going 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI and Megan Schimp going 2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored.

Wetzel got the win going 5 ⅓ innings allowing eight runs, two earned. She walked four and struck out four. Schmidt got the save, while Megan Stahlman took the loss.

In the second game, Wetzel was 3-for-4 with a home run, two RBIs and three runs scored for A-C Valley with Means going 2-for-3 with a home run, two runs scored and two RBIs. Brogan Armagost was also 1-for-3 with a triple, a run scored and two RBIs and McNany was 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Karleigh Aaron helped pace C-L going 2-for-4 with a triple, two runs scored and two RBIs. Stahlman was 2-for-5 with a double and an RBI and Liz Gruver was 2-for-3 with two doubles, a walk and a run scored.

Schmidt picked up the win going the distance allowing nine runs, seven earned. She walked eight and struck out two.

Cassidy Makray took the loss pitching six innings allowing 11 runs. She walked four and hit a pair of batters.

CRANBERRY 11, UNION 1, 5 INNINGS

SENECA, Pa. – Natalie Barcinas went 3-for-4 with a double and three runs scored and Malliah Schreck was 3-for-4 with two runs scored and three RBIs to help Cranberry to an 11-1, five-inning win over visiting Union.

Winning pitcher Andrea Watson added an inside-the-park home run, was hit by a pitch, scored twice and drove in one, while Rachel McCauley was 2-for-2 with a triple, a walk, a run scored and an RBI.

Watson went five innings allowing one unearned run on one hit and one walk while striking out seven.

Jada Zitzman was 1-for-2 with an RBI for Union. Morgan Cumberland took the loss.

MONITEAU 13, FOREST AREA 0, 5 INNINGS

MARIENVILLE, PA. – Amanda Dailey and Lexi Miller combined to drive in seven runs to help visiting Moniteau to a 13-0, five-inning win over Forest Area at East Forest.

Dailey was 2-for-4 with a triple, a walk, three runs scored and four RBIs with Miller going 3-for-4 with a run scored and three RBIs.

Also for the Lady Warriors, Dolcey Shunk scored four times while going 2-for-4 with a double, two walks and two RBIs, Megan Hepler was 2-for-4 with a run scored and two RBIs, Cassidy Claypoole was 2-for-4 with a walk and two runs scored, Courtney Stewart was 2-for-4 with a double and Madison Clark was 1-for-4 with two RBIs.

Stewart got the win giving up one hit while striking out five in five innings of work.

WEST SHAMOKIN 21, REDBANK VALLEY 1, 3 INNINGS

NEW BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Jaden DiFilipo scored four times and Gabby Olinger drove in six to lift visiting West Shamokin to a 21-1, three-inning win at Redbank Valley.

DiFilipo was 2-for-2 with a walk and an RABI with Olinger going 2-for-3 with a home run, a double and two runs scored. Shelby Clowser also drove in three for the Lady Wolves and was 2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored.

Kaia Rearick was 1-for-2 with a run scored for Redbank Valley with Elaina Miller going 1-for-2 with a double and an RBI.

BROOKVILLE SWEEPS BROCKWAY

BROOKVILLE, Pa. – After squeaking out a 5-3 win in the first game of its doubleheader with visiting Brockway, Brookville needed just two at-bats to notch a 25-1 three-inning win in the nightcap for a sweep at Northside Field.

Megrah Suhan hit a two-run inside-the-park homer in the Lady Raiders’ three-run fourth inning that put them up for good in the opener and she doubled in a run in the sixth.

Carlie McManigle tossed a three-hitter with 13 strikeouts, walking one and hitting three batters. Madison Barefield and Morgan and Leah Lindemuth had hits for Brockway.

Morgan Lindemuth was the losing pitcher, giving up five hits while walking nine and striking out five.

The second game, however, was over early as the Lady Raiders scored nine runs in the first inning and 16 runs in the second inning to enact the 15-Run Rule after three innings. McManigle doubled and hit an inside-the-park grand slam home run and Julie MacWilliams singled twice.

Abby Sunealitis was the winning pitcher, giving up two hits while striking out four and walking two. Barefield and MacKenzie Overbeck hit singles for the Lady Rovers.

CLEARFIELD 24, BRADFORD 0, 3 INNINGS

BRADFORD, Pa. – Led by four RBIs from Kate Lansberry, visiting Clearfield had eight players with multiple-RBI games in a 24-0, three-inning victory over Bradford.

Kate Lansberry was 4-for-4 with three runs scored while Karly Rumsky was 1-for-4 with a triple, a walk, two runs scored and three RBIs and Lindsay Hand was 1-for-4 with two runs scored and three RBIs.. MacKenzie Lansberry (4-for-4, a double, two runs scored), Brooke Cline (1-for-3, a walk, 2 runs scored), Aspen Bishop (4-for-4, 4 runs scored), Makayla Ross (3-for-4, a double, four runs scored) and Kristin Norman (3-for-4, 2 runs scored) each drove in a pair of runs.

Abby Fedder and Erica Hanes combined to one-hit Bradford with Fedder going two innings allowing no hits while striking out four and Hanes pitching a scoreless inning allowing a hit and a walk while striking out one.

Johna Hart had the lone hit for Bradford.

Makenzee Maley took the loss going three innings allowing 24 runs, eight earned, on 22 hits and three walks while striking out two.

DUBOIS CENTRAL CATHOLIC 3, ELK COUNTY CATHOLIC 0

ST. MARYS, Pa. – Ashley Wruble threw a five-hit shutout and Alyssa Bittner hit a home run to lead visiting DuBois Central Catholic to a 3-0 win over Elk County Catholic.

Wruble didn’t walk a batter and struck out eight in blanking the Lady Crusaders.

Bittner, meanwhile, was 2-for-4 with the home run, an RBI and a run scored. Mia Meholick added a double and an RBI for DCC with Gabby Sabatose going 2-for-3.

Josie Smith was 2-for-3 for ECC.

Michelle Gerber suffered the loss pitching well going seven innings allowing three runs, one earned, on 10 hits and two walks while striking out six.

DUBOIS 16, ALTOONA 6, 6 INNINGS

DUBOIS, Pa. – Lexi Ray hit a pair of home runs, including an inside-the-park home run, to help DuBois top visiting Altoona, 16-6 in six innings.

Maddy Ho also homered in the win for the Lady Beavers.

BALD EAGLE AREA 5, PUNXSUTAWNEY 4

PUNXSUTAWNEY, Pa. – Visiting Bald Eagle Area nipped Punxsutawney, 5-4.

Madison Stonbraker had three singles and two RBIs for Punxsutawney in the loss, while Kylee Lingenfelter doubled twice.

Lingenfelter took the loss allowing five runs on six hits. She struck out 11.

GLENDALE 13, CURWENSVILLE 3

CURWENSVILLE, Pa. – Lexi Mullhollen and Alaney Vereshack each hit a three-run home run to lift visiting Glendale to a 13-3 win over Curwensville.

Mulhollen’s shot came in the first inning with Vereshack going deep in the sixth. Mulhollen was 3-for-4 in the game with two runs scored and three RBIs with Versehack going 2-for-5 while adding a double, scoring twice and drive in five. Also for Glendale, Kristen Hewitt was 2-for-4 with three runs scored.

Abby Pentz was 1-for-3 with an RBI for Curwensville.

Mulhollen got the win going four innings without allowing a hit. She walked two and struck out four. Vereshack pitched three innings allowing three runs on two hits and six walks while striking out two.

Rachel LeGars took the loss going one inning allowing four runs, three earned, on four hits and a walk while striking out two. Logan Sheeder pitched an inning giving up three runs on two hits and three walks while striking out fone. Clerissia Cole pitched five innings allowing six runs, two earned, on six hit while striking out two.

COUDERSPORT 5, SMETHPORT 4

COUDERSPORT, Pa. – Erica Williams scored a pair of runs to help Coudersport edge visiting Smethport, 5-4.

Joplin Osgood was also 2-for-4 with an RBI for the Lady Falcons.

Madison Smith got the win allowing five runs on six hits and a walk while striking out nine.

Abbey Woodard was 2-for-4 with two doubles and a run scored for Smethport with Haleigh Larson going 2-for-3 with two doubles, a run scored and two RBIs.

Emily Treat took the loss allowing five runs on seven hits and five walks while striking out six.

GALETON 3, CAMERON COUNTY 2

GALETON, Pa. – Eva Olofson stole home in the bottom of the 10th inning to give Galeton a 3-2 win over Cameron County.

Olofson started the inning by being placed on second base under the international tie-breaking rule and moved to third on a single by Regan Fuller before stealing home for the winning run.

Cameron County forced extra innings when it tied the game in the top of the seventh as Alyvia McKimm led off with a double moved to third on an Allyson Narby single and scored on Kaelee Bresslin groundout that moved Narby to third with one out. But the Lady Raiders couldn’t find a way to get Narby home, as Makaya Shadle struck out back-to-back batters to preserve the tie. ‘

Shadle pitched all 10 innings allowing two runs on nine hits and a walk while striking out 16 to get the win.

Shadle was also a force at the plate going 2-for-3 with a home run, a double, a walk, a run scored and an RBI. Jessie Evans was also 2-for-4 for the Lady Tigers.

Laila Smith took the loss going 9 ⅓ innings allowing three runs, two earned, on eight hits and a walk while striking out 19.

Smith was also 3-for-4 at the plate for Cameron County with McKimm going 2-for-4 with two doubles and a run scored and Kaitlyn Burgett also doubling.

YOUNGSVILLE 23, SHEFFIELD 21

SHEFFIELD, Pa. – Rebekah Hogg hit three home runs, drove in six runs and scored four times to help visiting Youngsville to a 23-21 slugfest win at Sheffield.

Hogg was 3-for-4 in the victory and hit a pair of home runs in the same inning.

Andrea Sveda was also 3-for-5 with a double, two RBIs and four runs scored for the Lady Eagles with Destiny Upton going 2-for-3 with three runs scored and two RBIs, Jena Wilson was 1-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBIs, Maddie Cratty was 3-for-6 with a double, four runs scored and two RBIs and Erin Dunn was 2-for-6 with two doubles, three runs scored and an RBI.

Marissa Grubbs was 3-for-6 with a double, four runs scored and two RBIs for Sheffield with Mya Grubbs going 2-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and four runs scored. Jerika Dexter also scored three times for the Lady Wolverines while going 1-for-5 with an RBI.

Sveda got the win with Marissa Grubbs taking the loss.
