5/15/18 Baseball Wrap: Miknis Has Strong Return in DCC Victory Powered by Knox Country Farm Supply

The DuBois Central Catholic junior catcher, who missed nearly a month with an illness, returned with a vengeance going 2-for-3 with a home run, a walk, three runs scored and three RBIs while also pitching 1 ⅓ innings of scoreless relief with two strikeouts in a 10-3 DCC win at Kane.

Brandon Walker added a 2-for-3 day with two doubles and two runs scored for the Cardinals with Thomas Grecco going 2-for-4 with a double, a run scored and an RBI and Garrett Prosper driving in three runs. Pete Downer added a double and two RBIs.

Noah Bloom got the win in relief of Zane Felix. He tossed 2 ⅔ innings of scoreless relief allowing a hit while striking out six.

Felix pitched 2 ⅓ innings in a scoreless start giving up three hits and two walks while striking out two. Prosper was tagged for two runs on a hit and three walks while striking out two in ⅔ of an inning.

Ange Costanzo was 2-for-4 with a double for Kane.

Austin Jordan took the loss going 5 ⅓ innings allowing eight runs, five earned, on seven hits and two walks while striking out four.

PUNXSUTAWNEY 4, JOHNSONBURG 0

PUNXSUTAWNEY, Pa. – Brandon Matthews tossed six strong innings of shutout, four-hit ball to lead Punxsutawney to a 4-0 win over visiting Johnsonburg.

Matthews walked one and struck out 10. Derek Huey came in and pitched the seventh allowing a hit and a walk.

Tyler Richardson had a double and two RBIs to pace the Punxsutawney offense with Andrew Britton going 2-for-3 with two runs scored.

Neil MacDonald had a pair of hits for Johnsonburg. Gabe Watts took the loss allowing four runs on five hits and six walks while striking out four in 3 ⅓ innings of work.

BRADFORD 6, OTTO-ELDRED 2

BRADFORD, Pa. – Despite picking up just four hits, Bradford topped visiting Otto-Eldred, 6-2.

The Owls scored their six runs on the four hits, four walks and four Otto-Eldred errors.

Isaac Gralak had a hit, a walk and two RBIs for Bradford.

Tyler Gigliotti got the win in relief of Danny Manion. He pitched four scoreless innings allowing a hit and three walks and struck out four. Manion went three innings giving up two runs on three hits and three walks while striking out three.

Cole Sebastian had a double for Otto-Eldred.

Chase Sebastian took the loss going six innings allowing six runs, two earned, on four hits and four walks while striking out six.

PORTVILLE (N.Y.) 8, PORT ALLEGANY 4

PORTVILLE, N.Y. – Giving up seven runs in the first two innings was too much for visiting Port Allegany to overcome in an 8-4 loss at Portville (N.Y.).

Portville jumped out to a 4-1 lead after an inning and grew the advantage to 7-1 after two innings.

DJ Hlasnick was 3-for-3 with a walk, three runs scored and an RBI for the winners with Adam Wray going 2-for-4 with a double, a run scored and an RBI. Cameron Lott chipped in a double, two RBIs and a run scored and Maxwell Yehl was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.

David Talkington had a big day at the plate for Port Allegany going 4-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and an RBI. Tyler Lashway was 2-for-4 with a run scored, and Montgomery Tanner had a run scored and an RBI.

Portville used three pitchers with Yehl getting the win in relief going 2 ⅔ innings allowing three runs on six hits and three walks while striking out five.

Talkington took the loss giving up four runs on two hits and two walks while striking out one in ⅔ of an inning.

KARNS CITY 10, CLARION-LIMESTONE 3

BUTLER, Pa. – Tyler Yough and Austin Rumbaugh each drove in three runs as Karns City improved to a 14-0 on the year with a 10-3 win over visiting Clarion-Limestone at Kelly Automotive Park in Butler.

Yough was 2-for-3 with a walk and two runs scored with Rumbaugh going 2-for-4.

Nolan Riley and Jake Weckerly each chipped in two RBIs for the Gremlins with Riley going 2-for-3 with a walk and two runs scored. Steve O’Donnell added a 1-for-3 day with a walk and two runs scored, and Logan Pistorius was 2-for-4 with two runs scored.

Christian Smith had a double for C-L with Curven Goheen driving in a run.

Riley got the win going seven innings allowing three runs, one earned, on three hits and three walks while striking out three.

Hayden Callen took the loss allowing four runs on four hits and three walks while striking out two in two innings of work.

A-C VALLEY 13, FOREST AREA 6

EMLENTON, Pa. – Joe Dehart and Jeff Ginn both had two RBIs to help A-C Valley top visiting Forest Area, 13-6.

Dehart was 2-for-4 with Ginn going 1-for-3 with a walk and a run scored.

Luke Whitcomb (2-for-3, 1 walk, 1 RBI, 3 runs scored) and Levi Orton (2-for-3, 1 walks, 1 RBI, 1 run scored) each had two hits for the Falcons, Tony Thompson scored three runs while driving in one and Lucas Larimore was 1-for-3 with a walk, an RBI and two runs scored.

Dillon DiCorpo had a pair of RBIs for Forest Area while going 1-for-3 with a walk, Dylan Saxton was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI, Anthony Smith was 2-for-4 with a run scored, Daniel Schwab was 2-for-4 with an RBI and Aiden Quinn scored twice while walking once.

Matt Thompson got the win going 4 ⅓ innings allowing four runs, two earned, on five hits while striking out six.
