5/2/18 Baseball Wrap: Wilson, Clearfield Walk Off Previously Unbeaten Huntingdon Powered by Knox Country Farm Supply

HYDE, Pa. – Reese Wilson’s double on a 1-2 pitch with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning scored Harrison Peacock from second to lift Clearfield to a 3-2 win over previously unbeaten Huntingdon.

Peacock doubled leading off the inning but was still there with two outs when Wilson delivered in the clutch.

Clearfield trailed 2-0 until the sixth when Eli Glass hit a two-run, game-tying home run.

Glass was 2-for-3 with a double, a run scored and two RBIs.

Nick Zanic led Huntingdon, which fell to 13-1, going 2-for-3 with a walk and a run scored, while Nick Holesa hit a home run and drove in two.

Wilson pooched the win from Hunter Hipps throwing one pitch in the top of the seventh. Hipps went 6 ⅔ innings before reaching 100 pitches with 104 allowing two runs on six hits and two walks while striking out five.

Alex Mykut took the loss going 6 ⅔ innings allowing three earned runs on four hits and a walk while striking out 11 throwing 104 pitches. Casey Conner didn’t retire either batter he faced issuing a walk and then the game-winning double to Wilson.

CLARION 12, CLARION-LIMESTONE 1, 5 INNINGS

SHIPPENVILLE, Pa. – The top three batters in Clarion’s lineup – Spencer Miller, Cam Craig and Sterling Conner – went a combined 7 of 9 with 10 runs scored and two RBIs to lead the Bobcats to a 12-1, five-inning win over visiting Clarion-Limestone at the Clarion County Park.

Miller, the leadoff hitter, was 2-for-2 with a double and a walk while also being hit by a pitch. He scored four times. Craig, the No. 2 hitter, went 2-for-4 with a double and three runs scored, and Conner, the No. 3 hitter, was 3-for-3 with a double, a walk, three runs scored and two RBIs.

Skylar Rhoades also added a pair of RBIs and a run scored for Clarion with Drew Whren driving in three runs, including a two-run double.

Craig to the win going three scoreless innings allowing a hit and two walks while striking out two. Miller allowed one run on a hit and a hit batter in an inning of relief, and Calvin German gave up a hit but no runs while striking out two in an inning of relief.

Ben Smith had an RBI double for the Lions with David Wiles also doubling.

Christian Smith took the loss going 1 ⅔ innings allowing eight runs, five earned, on seven hits, two walks and two strikeouts. Ian Hawthorn pitched 2 ⅓ innings allowing four earned runs on two hits, seven walks and a hit batter while striking out one.

A-C VALLEY/KEYSTONE SPLIT DOUBLEHEADER

EMLENTON, Pa. – A-C Valley and Keystone split a doubleheader at A-C Valley with the Falcons taking a 1-0 win in Game One before Keystone rallied from five down to win the nightcap, 7-5.

In the 1-0 A-C Valley win, Broc Weigle outdueled Andrew Lauer.

Weigle got the complete-game shutout needing 99 pitches. He allowed three hits and three walks while striking out five.

Lauer nearly matched him zero for zero giving up a first-inning run. He allowed four hits and two walks while striking out nine.

The game’s lone tally came in the top of the first when the Falcons opened the game with two walks, a single and an RBI groundout from Joe Dehart.

Lucas Larimore, who scored the run, was 2-for-2 with a walk.

In the Keystone 7-5 win, the Panthers trailed 5-0 going to the fifth but scored five times in the top of the fifth to knot the game at five before forging ahead with two runs in the sixth on a two-run home run by Conner Exley with two outs after Corey Rapp reached on a two-out error.

The big hit in the fifth was a three-run, two-out double to center by Troy Johnson that tied the game at five.

Skylar Kagle had a pair of hits and a run scored in the win for Keystone.

Larimore was 1-for-2 with two walks, two runs scored and two RBIs for A-C Valley with Dehart going 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Johnson got the win going six innings allowing five runs, four earned, on six hits and two walks while striking out five. Ian Larson picked up the save allowing a hit in one inning of work.

Luke Whitcomb suffered the loss allowing seven runs, five earned, on seven hits and five walks in 6 ⅓ innings.

NORTH CLARION 14, FOREST AREA 1, 5 INNINGS

MARIENVILLE, Pa. – Sam and Logan Minich combined for four hits, four runs and two RBIs to lead visiting North Clarion to a 14-1, five-inning win over Forest Area at East Forest.

Sam Minich was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBIs with Logan Minich going 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Korey Mills added a 2-for-2 day with a double and a run scored.

Zyler Hargenrader got the win going five innings allowing an unearned run on one hit while striking out seven.

ERIE CATHEDRAL PREP 2, DUBOIS CENTRAL CATHOLIC 1

ERIE, Pa. – Playing at UPMC Stadium, the home of the Erie Seawolves, Erie Cathedral Prep’s Paul Causgrove scored on a wild pitch/passed ball in the bottom of the seventh inning to lift the Ramblers to a 2-1 win over DuBois Central Catholic.

DCC tied the game at one in the top of the seventh when Damon Foster hit a sacrifice fly scoring Noah Bloom. On the play, Peter Downer went to third.

Erie Prep then walked Tyler McIntosh and Domenic Tortelli intentionally to load the bases, and the move paid off when Brandon Walker struck out and Thomas Grecco grounded into an inning-ending fielder’s choice.

Then, with two outs in the bottom of the seventh, Anthony Kness issued three straight walks before the ball got away on a pitch to Trent Robison.

Grecco gave up one hit through five innings with the lone Erie Prep run against him scoring with the help of a pair of errors in the fourth. He struck out six and walked one. Kness didn’t give up a hit but walked three in 1 ⅔ innings in taking the loss.

PORT ALLEGANY 23, GALETON 3, 3 INNINGS

GALETON, Pa. – Trey Ayers drove in four runs to help visiting Port Allegany to a 23-3, three-inning win over Galeton.

Ayers was 2-for-2 with a walk and a run scored.

Howie Stuckey had a triple while going 1-for-2 with two RBIs and two runs scored for the Gators with David Talkington, Taro Tanaka and Ethan Sprankle all chipping in with doubles.

Talkington was 2-for-2 with a walk, three runs scored and an RBI, Tanaka was 1-for-1 with two RBIs and Sprankle was 1-for-1 with a run scored and two RBIs.

Also for the Gators, Tyler Lashway walked twice and scored twice, Boots Caden was 1-for-1 with two runs scored, Gage Smoker scored three times, Montgomery Tanner was 1-for-2 with an RBI and three runs scored and Jacob Anderson was 1-for-2 with two walks, two runs scored and three RBIs.

Josh Rees allowed two unearned runs on four hits and five walks while striking out nine in three innings to get the win.

ST. MARYS 15, ELK COUNTY CATHOLIC 5, 6 INNINGS

ST. MARYS, Pa. – At the Elk County Tournament at Berwind Park in St. Marys, Nate Beimel homered and Hayden Tettis doubled to help St. Marys take down rival Elk County Catholic, 15-5 in six innings in an opening-round game.

Nate Beimel was 1-for-3 with two walks, a run scored and three RBIs with Tettis going 2-for-3 with a walk and three runs scored.

Also for the Dutch, Jared Groll was 3-for-5 with two runs scored and two RBIs, Tim Beimel was 2-for-5 with an RBI, Shane Price was 2-for-4, Brandon Sicheri was 1-for-3 with two walks, two runs scored and an RBI, Jesse McKee was 1-for-2 with a walk and two runs scored and Matt Bellina scored twice.

Ryan Fritz was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI for ECC with Will Uberti going 1-for-4 with a run scored and two RBIs.

Groll got the win going 4 ⅔ innings allowing five runs, one earned, on six hits and four walks while striking out three. Nate Beimel went an inning walking two and striking out two and Brendon Rolley pitched a ⅓ of an inning striking out one.

Hunter Cashmer took the loss going four innings allowing six runs, three earned, on five hits and four walks while striking out three.

St. Marys will face Johnsonburg in Thursday’s title game with ECC taking on Kane in the consolation contest.

JOHNSONBURG 9, KANE 0

ST. MARYS, Pa. – In the other opening-round game of the Elk County Tournament at St. Marys’ Berwind Park, Neil MacDonald went 2-for-4 with a triple, an RBI and two runs scored lead Johnsonburg to a 9-0 win over Kane.

Austin Green was also 2-for-4 with a walk, a run scored and two RBIs for the Rams with Paul Gresco driving in two.

Daunte Allegretto got the win going seven innings allowing three hits and four walks while striking out two.

Austin Jordan took the loss allowing seven runs, six earned, on six hits and five walks while striking out six in 5 ⅓ innings of work.

Johnsonburg faces St. Marys in Thursday’s title game with Kane taking on ECC in the consolation contest.

BRADFORD 3, BROOKVILLE 0

BRADFORD, Pa. – Peyton Manion and Tyler Gigliotti combined on a four-hit shutout in Bradford’s 3-0 win over Brookville.

Manion nearly went the distance, running out of pitches and finishing with 105 after giving up four hits while striking out three and walking three. Gigliotti got the final two outs on four pitches to complete the game.

The Owls scored all three runs in the third inning, all of them unearned, with two coming home on Manion’s single.

Brookville’s pitching duo of Seth Dunkle and Tanner Labenne also combined on a four-hitter. Dunkle started and allowed all four hits while striking out two. Labenne threw three hitless innings, striking out one and walking one.

KARNS CITY 22, REDBANK VALLEY 17

HAWTHORN, Pa. – In an offensive struggle totaling 39 runs, including 16 extra-base hits with five home runs, it was visiting Karns City that slugged its way to a 22-17 win over Redbank Valley at Redbank Valley Municipal Park.

Steve O’Donnell and Austin Rumbaugh each had four hits for the Gremlins. O’Donnell doubled, tripled and drove in three runs. Logan Pistorius had two hits and drove in five runs, four coming in on his first-inning grand slam homer in the Gremlins’ seven-run inning. Nolan Riley had two hits with a home run.

Karns City led 7-1 after the first inning, 10-6 after three innings and took an 11-8 lead into the top of the sixth when it scored eight runs. Redbank Valley answered with nine runs in the bottom of the sixth before the Gremlins kicked a “field goal” in the top of the seventh with three runs.

Riley and Pistorius combined for the win on the mound for the Gremlins, with Pistorius getting credit for the victory going the final 3 2/3 innings, allowing nine runs and nine hits while striking out three.

The Bulldogs wasted a 17-hit effort. Bryan Layton and Kobe Bonanno each had four hits. Both homered while Bonanno doubled three times and drove in four runs. Layton doubled and drove in three runs. Nick Smith had three hits and scored four runs while Jimmy Gundlach doubled and homered, driving in three runs.

Starter Blaney Brooks, one of four Bulldogs pitchers, took the loss. He went 2/3 of an inning, giving up seven runs and five hits with two walks.

PUNXSUTAWNEY 12, DuBOIS 2, 5 INNINGS

PUNXSUTAWNEY, Pa. – A seven-run third inning sparked Punxsutawney to a 12-2 win in five innings over DuBois via the 10-Run Rule.

Brandon Matthews tossed a one-hitter, striking out eight and walking four. He was one of four Chucks with two hits, joining Logan Johnston, Derek Huey and Alec Greenblatt. Johnston doubled twice, driving in three runs while Andrew Britton also doubled. Greenblatt drove in two runs and scored twice.

Peter Foradora had the lone hit for the Beavers, doubling in both of his team’s runs in the fourth inning.

The Chucks managed 11 hits off four different DuBois pitchers. Dayne Bauman took the loss, pitching the first two innings and giving up five hits and six runs, all earned.

MONITEAU 18, UNION 0, 4 INNINGS

RIMERSBURG, Pa. – Hunter Fitzingo pitched a four-inning perfect game in Moniteau’s 18-0 win over Union.

Fitzingo needed just 42 pitches for his perfect outing, 33 of them thrown for strikes, and struck out eight of the 12 batters he faced. He also led the Warriors’ 14-hit attack, going 3-for-4 with a double, triple and two runs batted in.

Jake Jewart, Brian Kusner and Brice Williams all had three hits with Kusner and Jewart doubling and Chance Nagy tripling. Williams drove in three runs and Jewart scored three runs.

Lucas Bowser took the loss for the Knights, giving up eight runs and four hits in one inning.
