5/8/18 Softball Wrap: St. Marys Topples Altoona Powered by Knox Country Farm Supply

ST. MARYS, Pa. – Syd Eckert and Brianna Grotzinger each hit home runs to help St. Marys top visiting Altoona, 8-2.

Grotzinger was 2-for-2 with a run scored and three RBIs with Eckert going 2-for-2 with two runs scored and an RBI. Maddie Bowes added two RBIs for the Lady Dutch.

Kierra Moist had both RBIs for Altoona with Erica Benson and Jackie Beck scoring. Both Benson and Beck had doubles for the Lady Lions.

Maura Fledderman got the win going seven innings allowing two runs on seven hits and five walks while striking out nine.

Hannah Strawmire took the loss going six innings allowing eight earned runs on eight hits and eight walks while striking out four.

COUDERSPORT 7, BOLIVAR-RICHBURG (N.Y.) 3

BOLIVAR, N.Y. – Joplin Osgood had a pair of extra-base hits including a home run and drove in three runs to lead Coudersport to a 7-3 road win over Bolivar-Richburg (N.Y.).

Osgood also doubled in the contest and scored twice.

Chelsey Streich added a 1-for-2 performance with a pair of walks for the Lady Falcons with EmmaRae Easton going 1-for-3 with a sacrifice and three RBIs.

Easton got the win in relief of Madison Smith going four innings allowing five hits and seven walks while striking out one. Smith went three innings walking one and striking out four.

OTTO-ELDRED 23, BRADFORD 1, 3 INNINGS

BRADFORD, Pa. – Alyssa Sheelander and Reilly Raught combined for 13 RBIs to lead Otto-Eldred to a 23-1, three-inning road win over Bradford.

Sheelander was 4-for-4 with a double, three runs scored and eight RBIs with Raught going 3-for-4 with a double, a triple, two runs scored and five RBIs.

Camryn Thomas added four RBIs for the Lady Terrors while going 3-for-4 with four runs scored, and Emmalee Sheeler was 2-for-3 with a walk, two runs scored and two RBIs.

Emmalee Sheeler got the win going three innings allowing an unearned run on two hits and two walks while striking out five.

Molly Boser scored the lone run for Bradford.

CAMERON COUNTY 7, OSWAYO VALLEY 3

SHINGLEHOUSE, Pa. – Laila Smith and Amily Schatz each drove in two runs and Kelsee Reid had four hits to lead Cameron County to a 7-3 road win over Oswayo Valley.

Smith was 2-for-4 with two runs scored, Schatz was 3-for-4 with a double and a run scored and Reid was 4-for-4 with a run scored. Alyvia McKimm also added a pair of hits, an RBI and two runs scored for the Lady Raiders.

Karina West and Macy West were both 2-for-3 with an RBI for Oswayo Valley with Shayla Bickel going 2-for-4 with a run scored.

Smith got the win going seven innings allowing three earned runs on six hits and two walks while striking out six.

Karina West took the loss allowing seven earned runs on 16 hits and two walks while striking out five.

ELK COUNTY CATHOLIC 11, KANE 4

KANE, Pa. – Rosina Nero and Michelle Gerber each drove in two runs to lift visiting Elk County Catholic to an 11-4 win over Kane.

Nero also scored a run while Gerber was 3-for-4 with a run scored as well. Brandi Clyde added a pair of runs scored while going 2-for-3 with a double.

Kennedy Himes was 3-for-3 with a home run, a double and two RBIs for Kane with Ella Marconi going 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored.

Gerber got the win going seven innings allowing four earned runs on seven hits while striking out 12.

Rachel Danielson suffered the loss going seven innings allowing 11 runs, 10 earned, on nine hits and four walks while striking out six.

JOHNSONBURG 9, BROCKWAY 3

BROCKWAY, Pa. – Behind four Maria Jones RBIs, Johnsonburg picked up a 9-3 road win over Brockway.

Jones was 3-for-4 with a triple, a walk and two runs scored, while Alyssa Kasmierski went 3-for-3 with a double, a walk, two runs scored and an RBI for the Ramettes.

Mackenzie Freeman added a double, a walk, a run scored and two RBIs for Johnsonburg with Jenna Pavlock going 2-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and an RBI.

Leah Lindemuth was 2-for-4 with a double for Brockway with Mackenzie Overbeck going 2-for-3 with an RBI.

Lindsey Kocjancic got the win allowing three runs, two earned, on three hits, four walks and a hit batter in 5 ⅓ innings. She struck out 10. Jones relieved and gave up two hits while striking out five in 1 ⅔ innings.

CLEARFIELD 4, BROOKVILLE 1

HYDE, Pa. – Makyla Ross and Kate Lansberry each had two hits, and Erica Hanes and Abby Fedder combined on a four-hitter to lift Clearfield to a 4-1 win over visiting Brookville.

Lansberry was 2-for-3 with a double, a run scored and an RBI with Ross going 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored.

Fedder pitched six innings allowing one run on four hits and three walks while striking out seven to get the win. Hanes picked up the save going an inning in relief walking one and striking out one.

Brooke Cline and Karly Rumsky each added triples and runs scored for the Lady Bison, while Lindsay Hand had an RBI.

Lauren Hergert was 2-for-4 with a double for Brookville with Aleah Ames picking up an RBI and Julia MacWilliams scoring the run.

Carlie McManigle took the loss allowing four runs, three earned, on eight hits while striking out one.

REDBANK VALLEY 13, A-C VALLEY 9

PERRY TWP, Pa. – Becca Kunselman, Shylie Schreckengost and Sami Leasure combined to drive in eight runs to lead visiting Redbank Valley to a 13-9 win over A-C Valley.

Kunselman was 1-for-3 with a double and three RBIs, Schreckengost was 3-for-5 with a double and three RBIs and Leasure was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs.

Dakota Hetrick got the win going seven innings allowing 13 runs on 10 hits and a walk while striking out five.

Cami McNany and Syd Rankin each had three hits and two RBIs for A-C Valley,

McNany was 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles and three runs scored with Rankin going 3-for-4 with two runs scored. Kylee Eaton added two hits, including a double, and a run scored, Emily Wetzel had a double and two runs scored and Andrea Meals had a double and three RBIs.

MONITEAU 18, KEYSTONE 6, 5 INNINGS

KNOX, Pa. – Amanda Dailey and Courtney Stewart each drove in four runs as Moniteau secured a playoff spot with an 18-6, five-inning win at Keystone.

The Lady Warriors, the four-time defending District 9 Class 2A champions, secured at least a .500 record in league play by advancing to 7-4 in the league and 7-8 overall. School policy states a team must be at least .500 in league play to qualify for an open District 9 playoff, which the softball tournament is.

Dailey, who was the winning pitcher, was 2-for-4 with a triple and three runs scored with Stewart going 2-for-4 with a run scored.

Dolcey Shunk and Madison Clark each added three hits with Shunk going 3-for-4 with a double, a triple, a walk, four runs scored and an RBI and Clark going 3-for-4 with a run scored and two RBIs.

Cassidy Claypoole, Abbey Rottmen, Lexi Miller and Taylor Shultz each had a pair of hits.

Claypoole was 2-for-4 with a walk, two runs scored and an RBI, Rottmen was 2-for-4 with two doubles, a sac fly, a run scored and two RBIs, Miller was 2-for-2 with a walk, a hit by pitch, a double and three runs scored and Shultz was 2-for-3 with a hit by pitch, an RBI and two runs scored.

For Keystone, Maddie Dunlap was 2-for-2 with a double, an RBI and a run scored with Jessi Phillippi adding a double, a run scored and an RBI.

CURWENSVILLE SWEEPS SHEFFIELD

SHEFFIELD, Pa. – Curwensville swept a doubleheader at Sheffield winning Game One 25-5 in five innings and Game Two 16-1 in four innings.

In the first game, Abby Pentz was 5-for-6 with a double, an RBI and three runs scored, Lauren Tozer was 3-for-4 with a double, three runs scored and four RBIs, Sabrina Spencer was 2-for-6 with an RBI and two runs scored, Bailey Bloom was 2-for-4 with three runs scored and an RBI, Logan Sheeder was 1-for-2 with a double, three runs scored and two RBIs and Emma Caldwell was 1-for-1 with a triple, a run scored and three RBIs.

Mya Grubbs hit a home run over the centerfield fence for Sheffield while going 3-for-3 while adding a double, two RBIs and three runs scored.

Rachel LeGars got the win going five innings allowing five runs on eight hits and a hit batter while striking out four.

In the second game, Pentz was 3-for-4 with a triple, three runs scored and two RBIs for the Lady Tide with Bloom going 2-for-3 with two doubles, three runs scored and an RBI and Sheeder going 3-for-3 with three runs scored and three RBIs.

Clerissa Cole got the win going four innings allowing one run on three hits and three walks while striking out two.
