SHIPPENVILLE, Pa. – Anthony Kness tossed six innings of two-hit ball to help visiting DuBois Central Catholic to a 5-2 win over Clarion at the Clarion County Park Monday.

Kness gave up one earned run while walking two, hitting two and striking out six in the victory. He escaped a second-inning jam that saw Clarion have runners on second and third with no outs and a run in without letting up any more runs, a key point in the game.
Kness talked about the victory.
Cutter Boggess was perfect through three innings for Clarion but had some control issues in the third when DCC scored twice thanks to three walks and a balk. The Cardinals then added two more runs in the fourth when Boggess hit the first two batters before being replaced by Calvin German.
Boggess went four-plus innings allowing four runs, two earned, on one hit, three walks and two hit batters while striking out two. German pitched an inning-plus of scoreless relief walking three and Nick Frederick allowed an unearned run on two hits and a walk in two innings of work.
Domenic Toretti gave up a run in the seventh for DCC but escaped a bases-loaded, two-out jam by getting Cole Slaugenhaup to fly out to end the game. He allowed four hits and walked a batter.
Toretti and Kness had RBIs for DCC, with Boggess and Sterling Conner driving in runs for Clarion.
CLARION-LIMESTONE 10, FOREST AREA 0, 5 INNINGS
STRATTANVILLE, Pa. – Cole Grenci had a pair of hits, a run scored and an RBI to help Clarion-Limestone to a 10-0, five-inning win over visiting Forest Area in the season opener for the Lions.
Curvin Goheen added a 1-for-2 day with an RBI and two runs scored in manager Todd Smith’s debut. Ben Smith added a double and a run scored.
C-L used four pitchers.
Christian Smith started and went two innings allowing a hit while striking out two. Goheen went an innings allowing two hits while striking out one. Hayden Callen pitched a scoreless inning walking one and striking out two and Ian Hawthorn walked one in an inning of relief.
Daniel Schwab, Chris Pedersen, Aiden Quinn had hits for Forest Area.
KANE 9, SMETHPORT 6
KANE, Pa. – Zach Duck went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs to lead Kane to a 9-6 win over visiting Smethport.
Christopher Park added a pair of RBIs for the Wolves as did Ethan Anderson, who was 2-for-3 with a walk and a run scored. Cyrus Novosel added a bunt single and scored twice, while Ange Costanzo had a hit, a walk and a run scored.
Matt Stratton was 2-for-2 with an RBI and a run scored for Smethport. Blake Kinner was 2-for-3 with a double, a run scored and two RBIs.
Austin Jordan got the win going 4 ⅔ innings allowing two runs, one earned, on two hits and three walks while striking out 10.
NORTH CLARION 11, UNION 1, 5 INNINGS
FRILLS CORNERS, Pa. – Logan Minich hit a grand slam during an eight-run third inning to lift North Clarion to an 11-1, five-inning win over visiting Union.
Sam Minich and Bryce Byers each added a pair of RBIs for the Wolves with Sam Minich going 1-for-3 with a double and two runs scored and Byers 1-for-3 with a run scored.
Tyler Wolbert picked up the win going five innings allowing one earned run on two hits and two walks while striking out six.
Lucas Bowser had an RBI for Union with Isaac Yoder tripling.
KARNS CITY 3, REDBANK VALLEY 0
BUTLER, Pa. – Tyler Yough needed just 85 pitches, 64 of them strikes, to toss a four-hit, two-walk shutout of visiting Redbank Valley at Kelly Automotive Park in Butler.
Yough struck out five in the seven-inning complete-game win.
Jake Weckerly drove in a pair of runs for the Gremlins.
Grayson Harman was the tough-luck loser allowing three runs, two earned, on seven hits and two walks while striking out four in five innings of work.
BROOKVILLE 9, DUBOIS 8, 8 INNINGS
DUBOIS, Pa. – Dane Lyle’s two-out, two-run double in the top of the eighth inning was enough for Brookville to pull out a 9-8 win over DuBois in eight innings at Showers Field.
Lyle’s hit put the Raiders up 9-7, but DuBois rallied in the bottom of the eight. A single and two-base outfield error pushed home a run and had the tying run at third base with two outs before Raiders pitcher Seth Dunkle got a game-ending popup.
Dunkle went the final 4 2/3 innings to get the win in relief of starter Brady Caylor, allowing seven hits, and two walks while striking out three. He gave up three runs one earned. Caylor went the first 3 1/3 innings, allowing four hits and two walks while striking out three.
Aaron Park led the Raiders at the plate, going 3-for-4 with four runs batted in. He ripped a three-run homer in the top of the first inning and singled in a run in the Raiders’ three-run fourth inning. Dunkle was also 3-for-4 with two doubles and four runs scored.
Also for Brookville, Caylor and Lyle each had two hits. Adam Mackins and Tyler Park doubled.
DuBois tied it at 3-3 with three runs of its own in the bottom of the first. After the Raiders scored three in the fourth after two outs, the Beavers answered with four runs in the bottom of the fourth. Peter Foradora and Dylan McCluskey singled in runs.
McCluskey, the losing pitcher after throwing the seventh, finished 4-for-5 with three runs scored and three RBIs. Justin Swauger had three hits and Eric Schneider finished with two.
The Raiders tied it at 7-7 in the sixth inning with a two-out RBI single from Tanner LaBenne, who drove in Dunkle after he doubled.
BRADFORD 11, PUNXSUTAWNEY 10
PUNXSUTAWNEY, Pa. – Trailing 8-0 heading to the sixth, Bradford scored five in the sixth and six in the seventh to stun Punxsutawney, 11-10, in Punxsutawney.
Caleb Nuzzo’s one-out, bases-loaded, bases-clearing double gave the Owls a 9-8 lead in the seventh, and Peyton Manion then added a two-out, two-run double, his only hit of the game, for two more insurance runs that proved crucial when Punxsutawney scored twice in the bottom of the seventh before leaving the tying run at second.
Nuzzo had a pair of doubles out of the leadoff spot going 2-for-5 with two runs scored and six RBIs. Danny Manion also added two doubles and was 3-for-5 with a run scored and an RBI.
Patrick Caskey was also 3-for-5 for Bradford with two runs scored, Tyler Gigliotti walked three times, drove in a run and scored twice and Brody Nay walked twice added a single and scored twice.
Tyler Richardson was 3-for-4 with three doubles, a walk, three runs scored and two RBIs for Punxsutawney with Andrew Britton going 3-for-4 with two runs scored and three RBIs. Brandon Matthews was also 3-for-5 with a couple of RBIs for the Chucks, and Logan Johnston went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored.
Adam Boyer got the win in relief of Gigliotti going 2 ⅔ innings allowing five unearned runs on five hits and five walks while striking out two. Gigliotti went 4 ⅓ innings allowing five runs, two earned, on nine hits while striking out two.
Brandon Matthews took the loss in relief pitching ⅔ of an inning allowing three runs on two hits and a hit batter.
CLEARFIELD 7, CURWENSVILLE 2
CURWENSVILLE, Pa. – Jakob Sorbera went 3-for-4 with a double, a run scored and three RBIs to help visiting Clearfield knock off Curwensville, 7-2.
Nathan Barr added a 2-for-4 afternoon with two runs scored and an RBI for the Bison, who also got a double and a run scored from Ty Bender.
Eli Glass and Reese Wilson combined on a seven-hitter on the hill for Clearfield.
Glass got the win going 5 ⅔ innings allowing two unearned runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out 12. Wilson finished up going 1 ⅓ innings of scoreless, hitless relief striking out two.
Jake McCracken was 3-for-4 with a double, a run scored and an RBI for Curwensville with Ralph Evans going 2-for-3.
Avery Francisco took the loss going two innings allowing five runs, one earned, on three hits and two walks while striking out four.
OSWAYO VALLEY 4, OTTO-ELDRED 2
DUKE CENTER, Pa. – A four-run sixth inning lifted visiting Oswayo Valley to a 4-2 win over Otto-Eldred.
Trailing 1-0 going to the sixth, Gavin Babcock tied the game with a single, a wild pitch then gave the Green Wave the lead and Theo Henry followed with a two-run single.
Gage Babcock was 2-for-4 with a triple and a run scored for Oswayo Valley, while Garren Black got the win in relief. The third Green Wave pitcher, Black went 5 ⅓ innings allowing a run on two hits while striking out seven.
Gage Babcock started and gave up a run on two hits and walk while striking out two in one inning of work. Ryan Graves then pitched ⅔ of an inning hitting a batter and striking out two.
Chase Sebastian had an RBI for Otto-Eldred, while Cole Sebastian tripled and scored.
Sawyer Drummond took the loss going six innings allowing four runs, all earned, on five hits and three walks while striking out seven. Chase Sebastian pitched a scoreless inning of relief striking out one.
PORT ALLEGANY 14, GALETON 4, 5 INNINGS
PORT ALLEGANY, Pa. – Tyler Lashway had four hits to lead Port Allegany to a 14-4, five-inning win over visiting Galeton.
Lashway went 4-for-5 with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored for the Gators, while Howie Stuckey was 1-for-3 with a run scored and three RBIs.
Jacob Anderson and Josh Reed also had three-hit days for Port Allegany with Anderson going 3-for-3 with a double, two runs scored and two RBIs and Rees 3-for-3 with a double, a walk, an RBI and two runs scored. Drew Benson scored three times while going 2-for-2 with a double, two walks and an RBI and Gage Emerson was 2-for-3 with a walk, a run scored and an RBI.
Port Allegany used five pitchers in the win.
Reese went 1 ⅓ innings allowing four hits while striking out two. David Talkington pitched 1 ⅔ innings striking out three, Gage Smoker went an innings allowing two hits and two walks while striking out two, Carter Moses gave up four runs on five hits and a walk in ⅓ of an inning and Montgomery Tanner pitched ⅔ of an inning striking out one.
