5/11/18 Baseball Wrap: Craig, Miller Help Clarion Shutout C-L Powered by Knox Country Farm Supply

STRATTANVILLE, Pa. – Cam Craig and Spencer Miller combined on a five-hit shutout, as Clarion topped rival Clarion-Limestone, 3-0, in Strattanville.

It was the second shutout in as many days for Bobcats’ pitching, which has a scoreless streak of 14 ⅓ innings dating back to the sixth inning of Monday’s loss at Brockway.

Craig got the win going 6 ⅓ innings before exiting at 99 pitches. He allowed five hits and three walks and struck out nine. Miller came on for the two out save needing just three pitches to retire two batters.

Clarion scored a run in the first and then added two in the seventh.

Miller and Skylar Rhoades had RBIs for the Bobcats with both players going 1-for-3. Craig was 1-for-3 with a walk and a run scored. Calvin German had two hits going 2-for-3 with a run scored, and Cole Slaughenhaup was 1-for-2 with a walk and a run scored.

Hayden Callen and Drew Beichner pitched well for C-L.

Callen took the loss going four innings allowing a run on four hits while striking out one. Beichner gave up two runs, one earned, on three hits and two walks while striking out one in three innings of work.

Camden Hankey was 2-for-3 to lead the C-L offense.

JOHNSONBURG 7, REDBANK VALLEY 4

RIDGWAY, Pa. – Dalton Stahli was 3-for-3 with a run scored to help Johnsonburg to a 7-4 win over visiting Redbank Valley at Sandy Beach Park in Ridgway.

Neil MacDonald added a triple, a run scored and an RBI for the Rams with Paul Gresco and Kacey Raubenstrauch both doubling.

Gresco was 2-for-4 with two runs scored with Raubenstrauch going 1-for-4 with an RBI and MacDonald 1-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI. Daunte Allegretto was also 2-for-3 with an RBI for the Rams.

Gabe Watts got the win going five innings allowing two runs on two hits and three walks while striking out five. Johnny Mitchell gave up two runs in the seventh. He allowed five hits and a walk and struck out five in two innings of work.

Blaney Brooks was 2-for-4 with a double, a run scored and two RBIs for Redbank Valley.

Grayson Harman took the loss allowing six runs on nine hits and a walk while striking out two in 4 ⅓ innings of work.

BROOKVILLE 6, BROCKWAY 5

BROOKVILLE, Pa. – Scoring four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, Brookville rallied for a 6-5 win over Brockway at McKinley Field.

The Raiders trailed the Rovers 5-2 going into the sixth but batted around against four Rovers pitchers, including starter Cam Baker who threw effectively before walking leadoff batter Trenton Gilhousen and hitting Tyler Park for the second time in the game with his 100th pitch to start the inning.

The Rovers, with Marcus Copelli replacing Baker, were on the verge of getting out of the jam when Zane Puhala threw out Gilhousen trying to score on Brady Caylor’s flyout to right, but the Raiders scored four runs with two outs.

But Seth Dunkle doubled in a run, Park scored on the first of two Copelli balks and after Aaron Park was hit by a pitch, Tanner Labenne singled in two runs to put the Raiders ahead for good.

Dunkle earned the win on the mound, retiring 11 of the 13 batters he faced, including the last 10, to get the win in relief of Raiders starter Dane Lyle. Dunkle went 3 2/3 innings with two strikeouts and two walks, the second pushing home a run in the Rovers’ four-run fourth inning that put them up 5-2. Lyle gave up all three of the Rovers’ hits, striking out three and walking three in 3 1/3 innings.

Dunkle, Labenne and Lyle each had two hits for the Raiders.

Matt Holt had the lone run-scoring hit for the Rovers in the fourth. Matthew Clark’s sacrifice fly scoring Baker who led the game off with a single in the first.

ST. MARYS 12, BRADFORD 0, 5 INNINGS

ST. MARYS, Pa. – Jared Groll threw a one-hit shutout to lead St. Marys to a 12-0, five-inning win over visiting Bradford.

Groll walked three and struck out five.

Tim Beimel, Kael Azzato and Jake Meeker each had three RBIs for the Dutch with Beimel going 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored. Azzato was 3-for-3 with a run scored, and Meeker had the three RBIs without the benefit of a hit. He scored once.

Nate Beimel added a 2-for-2 day with a double, a walk, three runs scored and an RBI and Groll helped himself with a hit, an RBI and a run scored

Noah Meyer had the lone hit for Bradford.

Tyler Gigliotti took the loss going 2 ⅓ innings giving up seven runs on four hits and five walks while striking out two.

OSWAYO VALLEY 7, PORT ALLEGANY 1

PORT ALLEGANY, Pa. – Oswayo Valley scored two in the sixth and four in the seventh to break open a 1-1 game on its way to a 7-1 road win over Port Allegany.

Garren Black tossed a three-hitter to get the win. He allowed one unearned run and struck out 12 while not walking a batter.

Carter Steadman was 3-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI for the Green Wave with Gage Babcock and Ryan Graves both going 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI. Camden Graves added a 1-for-4 day with a double, a run scored and an RBI and Derrick Bickel scored twice.

Josh Rees had a double for Port Allegany.

David Talkington took the loss. He gave up five runs, three earned, on seven hits and a walk while striking out two in six innings.

CAMERON COUNTY 17, GALETON 1, 3 INNINGS

EMPORIUM, Pa. – Getting multiple-hit games from Adam Streich, Adam Shaffer and Alex Umble, Cameron County raced to a 17-1, three-inning win over visiting Galeton.

Streich was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI, Shaffer was 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI and Umble was 2-for-2 with an RBI and two runs scored.

Meanwhile, Jared Whiting had a double, two runs scored and three RBIs, and Bryce Bauer, Bryce Hiem and Ty Bauer were all 1-for-2 with two runs scored and two RBIs. Dino Brown was 1-for-2 with an RBI and two runs scored with Marcus Brown going 1-for-1 with an RBI and two runs scored.

Umble got the win allowing one run on one hit and one walk while striking out eight in three innings.
