DuBOIS, Pa. (EYT/D9) — The DuBois Central Catholic softball team, which has steamrolled through their schedule behind standout sophomore pitcher Rylee Kulbatsky, received the No. 1 seed in the District 9 Class A playoffs.
The Cardinals (17-2) have won four straight district crowns.
Kulbatsky, who nearly tossed a perfect game on Wednesday, has a 0.58 ERA and 175 strikeouts in 84 innings pitched this season.
No. 2 Elk County Catholic also received a bye in the six-team field.
Third-seeded Northern Potter (15-4) will host No. 6 Oswayo Valley (10-9) on Monday at 4 p.m.
No. 4 Otto-Eldred (16-3) will host No. 5 Redbank Valley (7-9), also on Monday at 4 p.m.
The Otto-Eldred/Redbank Valley winner will take on DCC in the semifinals on Wednesday. The Northern Potter/Oswayo Valley winner plays ECC in the semis on Wednesday. Game times are still to be determined.
The final will be held on May 27 at Heindl Field in DuBois. Time is to be determined.
CLASS 2A
Defending D9 champion Cranberry received the top seed in the five-team field.
In the play-in round, No. 4 Kane will host Moniteau (6-11) at 4 p.m. on Monday ay Szymanski Fields.
The winner takes on the Berries on Wednesday at a site and time to be determined.
In the other semifinal, No. 2 Karns City (11-5) will take on Curwensville (15-5) and another sophomore pitching phenom, Addison Siple, on Wednesday at a site and time to be determined.
Siple is 15-4 with a 1.47 ERA and has struck out 204 in 100 innings.
The championship game will be played May 27 at Heindl Field in DuBois. Game time is TBD.
CLASS 3A
Punxsutawney (13-6) will host Bedford (13-5) in a first-round District 5/9 subregional game on Friday.
The other subregional semi pits Chestnut Ridge (16-2) against Somerset.
The championship will take place on May 29 at a site and time to be determined.
CLASS 4A
Top-seeded St. Marys (16-2) received a first-round bye in the three-team bracket.
No. 2 Clearfield (9-11) will take on No. 3 Bradford (7-11) at Heindl Field in DuBois at 7:30 p.m. on Monday for the right to play the Dutch in the championship game, also at Heindl Field, on May 27. That game time is TBD.
CLASS 5A
DuBois (10-8) has a bye in the three team D6/9 subregional bracket.
Central Mountain (12-5) will play Hollidaysburg (10-10) at 4 p.m. on Wednesday at Bald Eagle to see who moves on to play the Beavers for the subregional title on May 28 at Heindl Field.
