SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. (EYT/D9) — Baylee Blauser’s collegiate track and field career is off to a good start.
The A-C Valley graduate, who won a PIAA Class 2A championship in the long jump in May, was named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Women’s Field Athlete of the Week award after jumping 5.83 meters (19 feet, 1.5 inches) at the Youngstown State University Icebreaker indoor event over the weekend.
Blauser won the state title with a jump of 18-6 3/4 for Union/A-C Valley in the spring.
Blauser, a freshman, was second at the YSU event, placing only behind a jumper from Division I Pitt.
Her jump is the best in the conference and ranks sixth nationally in Division II.
“I’m really happy about this,” Blauser said. “I have been working hard to get my goal jump and I’m so happy it happened the first meet. I know I have a lot more in me for the future and I’m excited to see my PR at the end of the season.”
Blauser was also fourth in the triple jump with a PSAC qualifying mark of 11.27 meters (36-11 3/4 feet). That ranks second in the PSAC and puts her No. 22 in all of Division II.
