Breindel’s Career Night Helps Elk County Catholic Past Farrell in PIAA Class A Playoffs

CLARION, Pa. (EYT/D9) – Charlie Breindel poured in 28 points, a career high, as the Elk County Catholic boys basketball team toppled Farrell, 65-53, in the second round of the PIAA Class A playoffs Friday night at Clarion University.

Breindel scored 26 of those points after the first quarter, in which ECC trailed by seven.

The Crusaders held the Steelers to just 32 points over the final three quarters.

Luke Jansen pitched in 13 points and Adam Straub 11 for ECC, which will play District 7 runner-up Union (New Castle) in the quarterfinals Tuesday at a site and time to be determined.

BISHOP CANEVIN 68, DuBOIS CENTRAL CATHOLIC 33 – Alec Srock scored 11 points for the Cardinals, who fell behind early and couldn’t recover in falling in a Class A state playoff game.

Bishop Canevin came out of the gate hot, building a 27-10 lead after one quarter and extended that advantage to 48-18 at the half.

DuBois Central Catholic scored just two points in the third quarter and trailed 57-20.
