Clarion Boys, Girls Win Consolation Games to Earn Spots in PIAA Playoffs; Clearfield Wins 4A Boys Crown

STRATTANVILLE, Pa. (EYT/D9) — Devon Lauer scored 17 points and Dawson Smail added 16 as the Clarion boys basketball team earned a spot in the upcoming PIAA Class A playoffs with a 69-41 victory over Keystone in a consolation game on Thursday night at Clarion-Limestone High School.

The Bobcats broke open a tight game with a 24-5 blitz in the second quarter to take a 45-23 lead at the half.

Drew Keth led Keystone with 16 points. Cole Henry also reached double figures with 12.

Clarion will take on District 7 champion Imani Christian in the first round of the state playoffs on March 10.

CLEARFIELD 47, ST. Marys 30

Cole Miller poured in 25 points to lead the Bison to a D9 4A crown.

Clearfield started slowly, trailing 8-5 after the first quarter, but surged ahead thanks to a 16-4 advantage in the second quarter.

Andon Greslick added 11 for the Bison.

BROOKVILLE 50, BEDFORD 39

Clayton Cook scored 14 point as the Raiders won this Class 3A subregional game.

Noah Peterson added 11 points for Brookville, which will play District 7’s Seton LaSalle in the first round of the PIAA playoffs on March 11.

Bedford also qualified for the state playoffs.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Sophie Babington scored nine points as Clarion clawed its way into the PIAA Class A playoffs with a 35-31 win over Port Allegany to secure the final District 9 spot in the state postseason.

Taylor Alston added eight points for the Bobcats, who trailed by seven at the half and by a point entering the fourth quarter before overtaking the Gators.

DuBOIS CENTRAL CATHOLIC 64, NORTH CLARION 44

Lexi Berta scored 18 points to lead a balanced scoring attack for the Cardinals in this third-place consolation game in Class A.

Kayley Risser added 17 points, Faith Jacob 11 and Marina Hanes nine for DuBois Central Catholic.

Madison McFarland paced North Clarion with 13 points. Lauren Lutz added 12.
