CLARION — The Brookville Raiders qualified 10 wrestlers for regionals and crowned three champions en route to their fourth title in five years at Saturday’s District 9 Class AA Wrestling Tournament at Clarion University’s Tippin Gymnasium.
The Raiders scored 189 points on their way to the championship. Thanks to a solid finish to the day, Redbank Valley finished 6-0 in the championship and consolation finals and edged Brockway for second place. The Bulldogs edged the Rovers, 142.5-140. Port Allegany (115) and Clarion (112) rounded out the top five. Ridgway was sixth with 91.5 points with Curwensville finishing seventh.
Brookville junior Taylor Ortz won his third straight title as did Curwensville’s Shae Bloom, who won his first two in Class AAA at DuBois. Brockway’s Anthony Benson won his second title. Otherwise, 12 wrestlers won their first district title.
The top four finishers in each of the 14 weight classes advance to next weekend’s Northwest Regional Tournament in Sharon.
