Tori Newton scored 14 points as the Elk County Catholic girls basketball team cruised to a 45-19 win over Northern Potter in the District 9 Class A quarterfinals.
The top-seed Crusaders led 27-8 at halftime.
Sydney Alexander and Lucy Klawuhn also had a big hand in the win for ECC.
Alexander and Klawuhn both scored 13 points.
Elk County Catholic will play Ridgway Tuesday in the semifinals at a site and time to be determined.
RIDGWAY 45, DuBOIS CENTRAL CATHOLIC 40 – Jenna Kasmierski poured in a game-high 19 points as the Elkers punched their ticket to the semifinals with this road win in the Class A quarterfinals.
The victory also guarantees Ridgway a berth in the PIAA playoffs. It’s the first time the Elkers have qualified for the state playoffs since 1989.
Carli Thomas, who sank two pivotal free throws late in the fourth quarter to help ECC hang on to a slim lead, added 17 points.
Marina Hanes led DuBois Central Catholic with 12 points.
BOYS
Class 4A Semifinal
Noah Weaver scored 13 points as Punxsutawney advanced to the title game with a 38-23 win over Bradford.
Gabe Kengersky added 11 points for the Chucks, who used an 18-0 run in the second half to pull away for the victory.
Punxsutawney led 16-11 at the half. Bradford pulled ahead briefly in the third quarter, but the Chucks got rolling again, closing the quarter on a 9-0 run.
A 9-0 run in the fourth sealed the deal for Punxsutawney (10-12), which will take on Clearfield for the district title at Clarion University Tuesday.
Jake Franz scored 13 points to lead Bradford.
