SHIPPENVILLE, Pa. – While the top four spots in the Jan. 29 D9Sports.com District 9 Boys’ Basketball Power Ratings stay the same from a week ago, two new teams enter the ratings tied for No. 14.
Jumping into the ratings this week are North Clarion (9-7) and Moniteau (9-8) after the Wolves went 2-1 during the week and the Warriors went 2-0. Dropping out are DuBois and Port Allegany with the Gators 54-point loss to Coudersport surely working against them.
Coudersport (16-0) remains No. 2 behind the only other unbeaten team, Elk County Catholic (16-0), which has won 53 straight regular-season games. Clearfield (16-1) is at No. 3, Clarion-Limestone (13-4) is No. 4 and Ridgway (14-3) comes in at No. 5.
Power ratings are different from rankings in that a power rating the rating is based on current events which means while previous performances and results are taken into consideration they are not the end all be all of how a team is performing in a particular week whereas a ranking is based on a team’s entire body of work. Because the rankings/power ratings are not used to determine playoff positions or seeings in District 9, we have decided to go to a power rating system to better reflect how a team is currently performing.
