KARNS CITY, Pa. (EYT/D9) — It was the first home sporting event at Diehl Stadium since Karns City senior football player Mason Martin collapsed during the third quarter of a game there on Friday night.
The Gremlin girls soccer team hosted Deer Lakes and played to a 1-1 draw with Hanna Dailey scoring on the lone goal for Karns City on a penalty kick.
Karns City players wore cleats with #2Strong and Jeremiah 29:11 — Martin’s favorite passage from the Bible.
They also wore white wristbands with MasonStrong and Jeremiah 29:11 written on them.
Deer Lakes players also paid tribute to Martin, who is fighting for his life with a brain injury in a Pittsburgh hospital.
The Lancers arrived donned in purple and draped a “MasonStrong” shirt with his uniform No. 2 in gold over the shelter of their bench.
“It was emotional,” said Karns City girls soccer coach Tracy Dailey. “Deer Lakes came in shirts and had signs. It was awesome.”
