BASEBALL

JOHNSONBURG 3, BROOKVILLE 0

JOHNSONBURG, Pa. – Gavin Elmquist threw a three-hit shutout, as Johnsonburg opened the season with a 3-0 win over visiting Brookville.

Johnny Mitchell led the Rams offense going 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles, an RBI and a run scored. Neil MacDonald was 3-for-3 with a solo home run and two runs scored.

Aaron Park pitched well in taking the loss going five innings allowing two runs, one earned, on five hits and a walk while striking out eight. Dane Lyle allowed one run on one hit while striking out two in an inning of relief.

Tanner LaBenne had a pair of hits in three at-bats for the Raiders.

MONITEAU 11, MARIEMONT (OHIO) 1, 5 INNINGS

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Chance Nagy drove in three runs to help Moniteau to its first win of the season, 11-1, over Mariemont (Ohio) in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

Nagy was 1-for-2 with two walks and two runs scored for the Warriors, while Gage Neal (1-for-3) and Hunter Fitzingo (1-for-2) also drove in a pair of runs.  Jake Jewart, less than five months removed from ACL surgery, added a triple while going 2-for-4 with two runs scored.

Fitzingo picked up the win going five innings allowing one run on three hits and a walk while striking out seven and hitting a pair.

SOFTBALL

A-C VALLEY 16, ROCKY GROVE 3, 5 INNINGS

FRANKLIN, Pa. – Cami McNany went 4-for-4 with two doubles, a triple, four RBIs and three runs scored to lead visiting A-C Valley to a 16-3, five-inning win over Rocky Grove.

Syd Schmidt got the win going 3 ⅓ innings allowing two hits and a walk while striking out three. Summer Whiter threw 1 ⅔ innings allowing three runs on two hits and seven walks while striking out one.

Schmidt also drove in a pair of runs and scored twice, while Kylee Eaton and Kelsie Terwilliger each scored three runs for the Lady Falcons. Eaton had a triple and drove in two, while Terwilliger was 1-for-1 with three walks and an RBI.

Amy Ruditus and Taniquia Taylor each scored runs for Rocky Grove.

CLEARFIELD 14, CURWENSVILLE 2, 6 INNINGS

CURWENSVILLE, Pa.- Abby Fedder pitched a four-hitter and Brooke Cline drove in five runs to lead visiting Clearfield to a 14-2, six-inning win at Curwensville.

Fedder allowed a pair of first-inning runs on three hits and then gave up one hit the rest of the way. She struck out three and walked two.

Cline had four hits, including a double, while Fedder helped her own cause by getting three singles with a pair of RBIs. Aspen Bishop also hit a two-run home run and had a pair of hits for the Lady Bison with Karly Rumsky adding two hits, with a triple, an RBI and three runs scored, Makayla Ross two hits, including a double, and Lindsay Hand two hits.

Rachel LeGars took the loss going four innings – the first three and then the sixth – allowing eight runs, six earned, on 14 hits and two walks while striking out three.

DUBOIS CENTRAL CATHOLIC 6, ST. MARYS 3

DUBOIS, Pa. – Ashley Wruble homered and drove in two, and Mia Meholick had a bases-clearing triple to help DuBois Central Catholic to a season-opening 6-3 win over St. Marys on the first regular-season game at DuBois’ new Challenger Field.

Wruble was 2-for-2 in the win scoring twice and being intentionally walked twice. Meholick made on one of the intentional free passes hurt with the three-run triple while going 2-for-3 with a pair of runs scored. Maia Cogley was also 2-for-4 with a run scored for the Lady Cardinals with Alyssa Bittner going 2-for-3 with an RBI.

Syd Eckert was 1-for-2 with a sac fly for St. Marys, while Maddie Bowes also had a sac fly.

The Lady Dutch jumped out to a 2-0 lead after a half inning before DCC tied the game with two in the second and then added four in the third.

Wruble picked up the win allowing three runs, one earned, on four hits and two walks while striking out five.

Maura Fledderman took the loss.
