BOYS’ CLASS AA

Bradford 4, St. Marys 2

BROCKWAY, Pa. – Mitch Forbes had a goal and an assist to lead Bradford to a 4-2 win over St. Marys in the District 9 Class AA boys’ soccer semifinals Tuesday night at Varischetti Field in Brockway.

Also scoring for the top-seeded Owls (11-8) were Ben Jordan, his 102nd career goal, Todd Smith and Ben Bean. Picking up helpers for Bradford were Jake Johnson and Alex Kelly.

Jack Kellam made eight saves to get the win for the Owls.

St. Marys (8-10-1) did not provide statistics.

Bradford will face the winner of Wednesday’s other semifinal between Brookville and Punxsutawney in the title gam at a date, time and location to be announced.

GIRLS’ CLASS A 

Redbank Valley 1, Port Allegany 0

NEW BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Raegen Neiswonger’s goal in the 76th minute lifted fourth-seeded Redbank Valley to a 1-0 win over fifth-seeded and visiting Port Allegany Tuesday night in the D9 Class A girls’ quarterfinals in New Bethlehem.

Despite controlling the play for most of the game, the Lady Bulldogs (16-3) outshot the Lady Gators (8-9-2) 9-0, the game was up for grabs until Neiswonger provided the game winner with just 3 1/2 minutes to play.

Redbank Valley will get a third crack at top-seeded Karns City in the semifinals at a site and time to be announced. The Lady Gremlins have handed the Lady Bulldogs two of their three losses on the season.

Ridgway 6, Brookville 1 

JOHNSONBURG, Pa. – Behind hat tricks from Caitlin Viglione and Julie Alford third-seeded Ridgway beat sixth-seeded Brookville 6-1 in  the D9 Class A girls’ quarterfinals in Johnsonburg Tuesday night.

Brookville (7-12) trailed by just a goal, 2-1, at halftime, but Ridgway (17-2) opened the second half by scoring three times in the first six minutes to blow the game wide open.

Viglione scored the first three goals for the Lady Elkers including a tally in the 41st minute to make it 3-1. Alford then scored in the 44th minute and gain in the 46th minute to make it 5-1 with 34 minutes left before completing here hat trick in the in the 67th minute to set the final score.

Scoring twice in the first 11 1/2 minutes, Viglione staked Ridgway out to a 2-0 lead. She tallied the game’s first goal in the 9th minute and then scored again in the 11th minute before Brookville got a goal in the 22nd minute from Brooke Hummel to get within a goal.

Brookville keeper Mariah Gareis made several top-notch saves in the opening 40 minutes to keep the game close, but Ridgway’s relentless pressure finally proved to be too much in the second half.

The Lady Elkers will take on DuBois Central Catholic, a 2-1 winner over Elk County Catholic, in the semifinals at a time and date to be announced.

CLASS AA GIRLS

St. Marys 5, Bradford 4, overtime

BROCKWAY, Pa. – Kaitlin Barackman scored her third goal of the game five minutes into overtime to lift St. Marys to a 5-4 win over Bradford in the District 9 Class AA girls’ semifinals Tuesday night at Brockway.

The game, which featured eight goals in the second half and overtime, was a back-and-forth affair through out with St. Marys taking a 1-0 lead at halftime and a 3-1 lead in the second half before a pair of Arianna Brien goals tied the game at three.

Rachel Caretti put St. Marys back ahead 4-3 in the 65th minute before another goal by Brien, her fourth of the game, made it 4-4 forcing overtime.

Barackman gave the Lady Dutch a 1-0 lead with the only goal of the first half before Brien tied the game at one in the 45th minute.

Goals by Nicole Muccio and Barackman put St. Marys back ahead 3-1 before Brien tied the game with a pair of goals two minutes apart.
