Roxbury, Johnston Help Union Down Keystone in Overtime; Big Games by Beighley and Peters Lift Karns City Past Punxsutawney

KNOX, Pa. (EYT/D9) — Skyler Roxbury scored the final five points in overtime and Payton Johnston poured in 24 points as the Union boys basketball team edged Keystone, 71-69, in a Monday night thriller.

Roxbury added 20, none bigger than the eight he scored in the extra frame.

Roxbury hit two 3-pointers in overtime.

Zander Laughlin also hit a 3-point in OT to help the Golden Knights get the road win.

Johnston did a lot of his damage early. The senior guard scored nine in the first quarter and had 17 at the half as Union led 36-29.

Keystone, though, wasn’t going to go quietly.

Drew Keth scored 28 points — 14 coming in the fourth quarter and overtime. He hit eight 3-pointers.

Cole Henry added 16 points, Tyler Albright 11 and Kyle Nellis 10 for Keystone, which also lost a hard-fought overtime game last week to Karns City.

Laughlin had a double-double for Union with 12 points and 10 rebounds.

Keystone was 11-of-18 from 3-point range.

Union hit eight 3-pointer in the win.

KARNS CITY 55, PUNXSUTAWNEY 51

Taite Beighley scored 22 points and Shane Peters came off the bench to add 20 as the Gremlins outlasted the Chucks at home.

Karns City led 23-22 at the half, but trailed 37-35 heading into the fourth quarter.

That’s when Beighley and Peters were at their best.

Beighley scored 12 of his points in the fourth quarter and Peters added six.

Beighley was 8-of-9 from the line in the final quarter.

Noah Weaver led Punxsutawney with 18 points. Noah Kengersky added 11 for the Chucks.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Sophia Schmader scored 16 points to lead three Brockway players in double figures as the Rovers downed Forest, 49-19.

Kalina Powell added 15 points and Madelyn Schmader 14 for Brockway.

Amber Guzzi scored seven points and Kaylie Rooke added six points, five rebounds and three blocked shots for the Fires.
