Wallace Fires 2-Hitter as Moniteau Blanks North Clarion; DCC Gets Back on Track With Victory Over Johnsonburg

FRILLS CORNERS, Pa. (EYT/D9) — Dawson Wallace gave up just two singles and struck out 11 to lead the Moniteau baseball team to a 2-0 win over North Clarion on Tuesday afternoon.

Wallace was sharp throughout, not issuing a walk.

North Clarion managed just a first-inning single by Kyle Rusiewicz and a seventh-inning single by Wade Peters.

Meanwhile, Wallace gave himself all the runs he needed with a solo home run in the first inning.

The Warriors tacked on another run in the top of the fifth inning and a sacrifice fly by Wallace that scored Connor Ealy.

Ealy was 2 for 4 with a double. Brock Matthews tripled for Moniteau (4-7).

Aiden Hartle got the loss, but pitched well. He struck out 13 and gave up two runs on six hits, walking two.

DuBOIS CENTRAL CATHOLIC 3, JOHNSONBURG 1

After falling 10-0 to Clarion-Limestone on Monday, the Cardinals bounced back in a big way, getting a two-hitter from Carter Hickman on the mound and two RBIs from Brezenski to get back in the win column.

Cartar Kosko also had a pair of hits and Aiden Snowberger singled and doubled for DCC (8-4).

Hickman struck out six and walked four. The only run he gave up was unearned.

Luke Zimmerman and Derek Beimel had singles for Johnsonburg (6-4).

Zimmerman picked up the loss, giving up two runs on six hits and striking out four and walking four in 5 1/3 innings.

DuBois Central Catholic had won seven straight after an 0-3 start to the season before Monday’s loss to C-L.

REDBANK VALLEY 14, CRANBERRY 3

Breckin Minich went 4 for 5 with four RBIs as the Bulldogs broke a 3-3 tie with a six-run fourth inning on the way to a six-inning win over the Berries.

Redbank Valley had 16 hits in the game. Owen Clouse had two hits, including a double, Tyler Hetrick had a pair of singles, Mason Clouse singled and doubled and Braylon Wagner tripled, singled and drove in two for the Bulldogs.

Peyton Rearick also doubled and had two RBIs and three runs scored for Redbank (6-3).

Ty Carrier got the win. He went five, giving up three runs on six hits and fanning four.

Wagner closed things out with a clear inning, striking out two.

Cole Findlay had a pair of hits for Cranberry (3-4).

CLARION 8, DuBOIS 2

Derek Smail went 2 for 4 with a home run and four RBIs to lead the Bobcats.

Noah Harrison also had a big day, going 3 for 3 with a double and two RBIs for Clarion (8-2).

Devon Lauer got the win, giving up just one hit while striking out four in four innings of work.

Talon Hodge had a pair of hits for DuBois (4-6).

CLARION-LIMESTONE 12, KEYSTONE 1

Brayden Murray went 3 for 4 with a home run and two RBIs as the Panthers jumped out to a 4-0 lead after one inning and cruised.

Murray’s homer in the bottom of the sixth triggered the 10-run mercy rule.

He wasn’t the only one to have a big afternoon for Clarion-Limestone (7-4).

Tommy Smith had a pair of triples, Logan Lutz also had a triple and a single, Jordan Hesdon doubled, singled and drove in two and Nick Aaron and Jake Smith each had two hits for the Lions, who had 15 in the game.

Jack Craig also doubled for C-L.

Tommy Smith started and worked two innings, giving up one run on one hit, while striking out four.

Kohen Kemmer got the win, working four innings of relief. He gave up no runs on one hit and fanned three.

Brady Dunlap and Kord Stewart had the only two hits, both singles, for Keystone (1-8).

KARNS CITY 23, FOREST 0

Mallick Metcalfe and Troy Nagel each homered as the Gremlins banged out 18 hits in a three-inning win over the Fires.

Metcalfe knocked in four and also scored three times, Michael Neff went 2 for 2 with a triple and Jacob Callihan went 2 for 3 with four RBIs for Karns City (8-5).

Eight players had at least one hit and one RBI for the Gremlins.

Nagel drove in three runs.

Metcalfe and Colton Christie combined for the three-inning no-hitter.

Metcalfe threw 20 of his 25 pitches for strikes, fanning six in his two perfect innings.

Christie struck out two and walked on in his inning of work.

Karns City led 3-0 after one and then put 12 on the board in the top of the second.

PUNXSUTAWNEY 10, ELK COUNTY CATHOLIC 1

Jake Henretta and Peyton Hetrick each drove in a pair of runs as the Chucks improved to 10-1 with a win over the Crusaders.

Punxsutawney scored four runs in the top of the second to get things going and added three more in the fifth for a 7-0 lead.

ECC scored its run in the bottom of the fifth and managed just one hit against a pair of Punxsy pitchers.

Jake Sikora got the win, giving up the lone hit and striking out eight in five innings. The run he gave up was unearned.

Josh Tyger finished up, striking out five in two clean innings.

David Anderson had the only hit for ECC (2-9).
