April 17 Softball Roundup: Karns City Wins a Wild One Over A-C Valley

KARNS CITY 13, A-C VALLEY 10

PARKER, Pa. – Scoring multiple runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings, Karns City won a shootout at A-C Valley, 13-10.

The Lady Gremlins scored five in the third, three in the fourth and four in the fifth to take a 12-0 lead before A-C Valley answered with a six-spot in the bottom of the fifth. Karns City added a run in the sixth, and A-C Valley scored four in the seventh.

Kate Allen was 2-for-3 with a triple, two runs scored and four RBIs for Karns City with Mackenzie Dunn going 3-for-4 with a double, a run scored and three RBIs.

Emily Wolfe and Alyssa Stitt also had three hits apiece for the Lady Gremlins with Wolfe going 3-for-5 with four runs scored and Stitt 3-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI. Makala Bailey also had two hits and three runs scored with Taylor Ekis getting two hits and an RBI.

Annie Viertel and Cami McNany were both 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs for A-C Valley with Kylie Eaton going 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI.

Makenzie Shay got the win going five innings allowing five runs, four earned, on five hits and two walks while striking out three.

MONITEAU 11, CLARION 0, 5 INNINGS

WEST SUNBURY, Pa. – Kennedy DeMatteis threw a two-hitter and added a pair of doubles and four RBIs on offense to lead Moniteau to an 11-0, five-inning win over visiting Clarion.

Kennedy DeMatteis was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and struck out eight while walking four in five innings of work.

Kennedy’s twin sister, Kristina DeMatteis, hit a pair of home runs and added a triple while going 3-for-3 with four RBIs herself, while Cortney Claypoole had a pair of triples and was 2-for-3 with three runs scored and an RBI. Megan Hepler also chipped in two hits and a run scored.

Alexis Constantino and Cora Zerfoss had the hits for Clarion.

PUNXSUTAWNEY 8, ELK COUNTY CATHOLIC 1

PUNXSUTAWNEY, Pa. – Morgan VanLeer was 3-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and two RBIs to lead Punxsutawney to an 8-1 win over visiting Elk County Catholic.

Alli Ishman was also 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored in the win for the Lady Chucks, while Kylee Lingenfelter was 2-for-4 with two doubles, an RBI and two runs scored, Tessa Winebark 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI, Kim Shoemaker 2-for-3 with two RBIs and Grace Aikens 2-for-4 with a double, a run scored and an RBI.

Lingenfelter was fantastic in the circle again going seven innings allowing one run on one hit and three walks while striking out 13.

Jenna Weisner scored the run for ECC, while Emily Evers had an RBI and Sady VanAlstine the lone hit, a double.

Michelle Gerber took the loss going six innings allowing eight runs, seven earned, on 15 hits while striking out four.

DUBOIS CENTRAL CATHOLIC 11, ST. MARYS 5

ST. MARYS, Pa. -Macey Hanes, Riley Assalone and Sabrina Spencer all had a pair of hits to lead DuBois Central Catholic to an 11-5 road victory over St. Marys.

Hanes was 2-for-3 with three runs scored, while Assalone was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and three RBIs. Spencer was 2-for-3 with an RBI.

Jordy Frank also had a hit, two runs scored and an RBI for the Lady Cardinals.

Morgan Krug, Micayla Bothun and Sydney Eckert each had two hits for St. Marys.

Krug was 2-for-4 with a run scored, Bothun was 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI and Eckert was 2-for-4.

Assalone got the win going seven innings and allowing five runs, two earned, on 10 hits while striking out three.
