Brockway, Ridgway Round Two: Lady Rovers, Lady Elkers Advance to D9 1A Title Game; Bradford Also Win

BROCKWAY, Pa. – Amanda Williams scored twice to lift second-seeded Ridgway to the District 9 Class 1A soccer championship game with a 2-0 win over sixth-seeded Port Allegany at Brockway’s Varischetti Field.

Lindsey Kocjancic got the shutout in net for the defending champion Lady Elkers, who will now play top-seeded Brockway in the title game. It is a rematch of last year’s championship contest won 2-1 by Ridgway. That game will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 30, at DuBois High School.

BROCKWAY 2, ELK COUNTY CATHOLIC 0

DUBOIS, Pa. – Mackenzie Overbeck made eight saves and Brockway scored a goal in each half to return to the District 9 Class 1A soccer championship game for the third straight year with a 2-0 win over Elk County Catholic at DuBois High School.

The top-seeded Rovers, who will play second-seeded and defending champion Ridgway at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 30, at DuBois in the title match, got goals from Chanell Britten and Danielle Wood.

Britten put unbeaten Brockway up 1-0 in the first half, and the Rovers led fourth-seeded ECC by that score at the break.

Wood, who assisted on the Britten goal, then scored a goal of her own after the break with Morrigan Decker getting the assist.

BOYS’ SOCCER

BRADFORD 3, CLEARFIELD 0

BROCKWAY, Pa. – Second-seeded Bradford is heading to the District 9 Class 3A championship game after blanking third-seeded Clearfield, 3-0, at Brockway’s Varischetti Field.

Ian Grady, Ryan Miller and Colton Swanson scored for the Owls with the Miller and Swanson goals coming after halftime.

Grady put Bradford ahead, 1-0, on a tally nearly midway through the 12th minute and that lead remained at 1-nil at halftime despite some good chances by the Owls.

Miller gave Bradford some breathing room when he banked in a shot off the Clearfield keeper in the 55th minute, and Swanson put the capper on the win when he scored in the 67th minute.

The Owls will take on DuBois in the title game at 7 p.m. Monday at Brockway’s Varischetti Field.
