Cranberry, Oswayo Valley, O-E, J-burg, DCC all Advance in D9 1A Volleyball Playoffs

The District 9 Class 1A quarterfinals are set after five teams won first-round matches Thursday night – Elk County Catholic, Clarion and A-C Valley had byes in the 13-team tournament.

Here is a look at the five matches.

CRANBERRY 3, NORTHERN POTTER 0

SENECA, Pa. – Strong offensive nights from Ava Ferringer and Jenna Reynolds helped fourth-seeded Cranberry sweep 13th-seeded and visiting Northern Potter, 3-0 (25-16, 25-15, 25-15).

Relisten to the match:

Ferringer led the Berries with 11 kills with Reynolds adding nine kills.

Reynolds was named the Hager Paving Player of the Match and talked about the win.

Also for Cranberry Abby Hanna had six kills and Mikayla Wenmoth and Maria Anderson each added four kills.

Emily Duncan ran the Berries offense with 27 set assists and contributed three kills.

Savannah Herring had a strong night for Oswayo Valley with seven kills with Megan Hyde adding four kills and Courtney Martin three kills.

Cranberry will hosts fifth-seeded Oswayo Valley in the quarterfinals at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.

OSWAYO VALLEY 3, UNION 1

SHINGLEHOUSE, Pa. – After splitting the first two sets with visiting Union, Oswayo Valley won the final two sets easily to pick up a 3-1 (25-16, 22-25, 25-8, 25-13) victory over the Golden Damsels.

The fifth-seeded Green Wave, who will play at fourth-seeded Cranberry at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in the quarterfinals, were led by Avavree Kellert’s 13 kills and four aces with Jadyn Brabham adding eight kills and 11 aces.

Mackenzie George (15 set assists) and Trinity Lundy (12 set assists) ran the Oswayo Valley offense with Macy West adding to the offense with six kills and five blocks.

Dominika Logue paced 12th-seeded Union with six kills with Drew Davis adding three kills and Hailey Kriebel two kills.

OTTO-ELDRED 3, COUDERSPORT 2

DUKE CENTER, Pa. – Seventh-seeded Otto-Eldred rallied from two sets down to beat visiting and 10th-seeded Coudersport, 3-2 (18-25, 16-25, 25-20, 25-17, 15-9).

Reilly Raught had a big night for the Lady Terrors, who will travel to second-seeded Clarion for a 6:30 p.m. match Tuesday, with 17 kills, five blocks, two digs and two aces.

Mogan Dalton added eight kills, three digs and three blocks for Otto-Eldred with Haley Cousins contributing six kills, two digs and two blocks. Emmalee Sheeler ran the Lady Terrors offense with 32 set assists and added a block.

Addie Myers paced Coudersport with 10 kills, five blocks and a dig with Sarah Atherholt adding six kills and five blocks and Mikayla Gunn three kills.

Lauren Stimaker ran the offense for the Lady Falcons with 28 set assists while adding three kills, two blocks and two aces.

JOHNSONBURG 3, KEYSTONE 1

JOHNSONBURG, Pa. – Eighth-seeded got 13 kills from Jenna Morgan to upsend ninth-seeded and visiting Keystone, 3-1 (25-15, 25-16, 22-25, 25-16).

Emma King added nine kills for the Ramettes, who will play at top-seeded Elk County Catholic at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, while Kenzie Sallack and Alaina Sherry each had six kills.

Head coach Bill Shuey also praised the digging and passing of Hailey Cherry.

Ceayra Altman led Keystone with 10 kills, while Alyssa Dunlap had eight kills and two aces.

McKenna Kaye ran the offense for the Lady Panthers with 17 set assists.

DUBOIS CENTRAL CATHOLIC 3, CAMERON COUNTY 2

EMPORIUM, Pa. – After taking the first two sets, visiting and 11th-seeded DuBois Central Catholic had to withstand a strong comeback attempt from sixth-seeded Cameron County to pull out a 3-2 (25-17, 25-21, 20-25, 16-25, 16-14) victory.

Bella Mangiantini led the Lady Cardinals with 11 kills and seven blocks with Hannah Holdren added nine kills, including the match-winner, while adding six blocks. Jordy Kosko chipped in eight kills.

Maia Cogley ran the DCC offense with 24 set assists and added a pair of aces.

Mallory McKimm paced Cameron County with six kills and seven blocks with Morgan Lorenzo adding four kills and four aces and Kaelee Bresslin five kills.

Reggie Goodrow ran the Lady Raiders offense with 19 set assists.

DCC will play at third-seeded A-C Valley in the quarterfinals at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.
