May 2, 2019 Softball Recaps: Kemmer Hit Gives Clarion Wild Walk-Off Win Over Cranberry

CLARION 9, CRANBERRY 8, 9 INNINGS

CLARION, Pa. – Lindsey Kemmer’s base hit to center with one out in the bottom of the ninth scored Jordan Best from second base as Clarion walked off Cranberry, 9-8.

Best started the inning with a walk and went to second on a wild pitch before another walk and a pop out set the scene for Kemmer, who talked about the victory.

Clarion led 8-0 with one out in the top of the sixth before Cranberry scored seven times in the sixth to get within a run. The Berries then tied the game in the top of the seventh on a two-out double to right-center field by Maria Anderson. Cranberry had a chance to take the lead in the top of the ninth when Malliah Schreck doubled to left-center with two outs, but Rachel McCauley was thrown out on a bang-bang play at the plate to keep the game tied at eight.

Cranberry manager Glenn Barcinas talked about the wild game.

Brenna Campbell was 3-for-5 with a triple, two runs scored and two RBIs to lead Clarion’s offense, while Carly Best went 3-for-5 with two runs scored. Kemmer was also 3-for-5 with a triple and two RBIs, Payton Simko was 2-for-5 with a run scored and an RBI and Tori Vega was 2-for-4 with a run scored and two RBIs. Winning pitcher Kait Constantino also had a hit and two runs scored.

Anderson was 3-for-4 with the double, a run scored and an RBI. Schreck was 2-for-5 with a double, an RBI and two runs scored. Megan Hadden added a hit, a run scored and two RBIs, and Jenna Seigworth was 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Constantino pitched nine innings giving up eight runs, six earned, on 11 hits and a walk while striking out 11.

Maddie Cornelius took the loss going 8 ⅓ innings allowing nine earned runs on 15 hits and four walks while striking out one.

ST. MARYS 10, ELK COUNTY CATHOLIC 0, 5 INNINGS

ST. MARYS, Pa. – Maura Fledderman drove in three runs to lead St. Marys to a 10-0, five-inning win over Elk County Catholic in the championship game of the Elk County Tournament in St. Marys.

Fledderman was 1-for-3 with a home run and a run scored.

Britney Shaw was also 2-for-3 two doubles and two runs scored with Brianna Grotzinger was 3-for-4 with two doubles with a run scored and two RBIs and Emily Vollmer 2-for-3 with a home run, a run scored and two RBIs.

Morgan Wolf and Rosina Nero had hit for ECC.

Fledderman got the win goung five innings allowing two hits and a walk while striking out seven.

JOHNSONBURG 9, CAMERON COUNTY 8

ST. MARYS, Pa. – Mackenzie Freeman’s two-out, two-strike double in the bottom of the seventh inning lifted Johnsonburg to a 9-8 win over Cameron County in the consolation game of the Elk County Tournament in St. Marys.

Cameron County had broken a 6-all tie in the top of the inning on an RBI double by Taylor Britton followed by an Ashlea Burgett run-scoring groundout.

But in the bottom of the seventh, Jenna Pavlock led off with a triple and Peyton Delhunty and Alexa Mahoney followed with singles to make it 8-7. Back-to-back strikes out and stolen bases by Delhunty and Mahoney had runners at second and third for Freeman, who fell behind in the count 1-2 before working it full, fouling off a pitch and then winning the game with the double to right.

Freeman’s two-bagger was the fourth of the game for the Ramettes, who also got doubles from Haylee Zimmerman, Priscilla Ehrensberger and Julie Peterson, and capped a 2-for-4 day with three RBIs and a run scored for Freeman.

Delhunty was also 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBIs, Mahoney was 2-for-4 with a run scored and two RBIs, Peterson was 2-for-4 with a run scored, Ehrensberger was 2-for-3 with a run scored, Pavlock was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and Zimmerman was 1-for-4 with a run scored and two RBIs.

Alyvia McKimm paced Cameron County going 3-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and two RBIs. Taylor Lamont was 3-for-4 with a triple and two runs scored and Laila Smith went 2-for-4 with a double, a run scored and two RBIs

Peterson got the win going seven innings allowing eight runs, six earned, on 12 hits and a hit batter while striking out five.

Smith took the loss going 6 ⅔ innings allowing nine runs, eight earned, on 13 hits while striking out seven.

DUBOIS CENTRAL CATHOLIC 14, KANE 0, 5 INNINGS

KANE, Pa. – Avery Sickeri went 3-for-3 including a double, two runs scored and three RBIs to lead visiting DuBois Central Catholic to a 14-0, five-inning victory at Kane.

Mia Meholick was also 2-for-2 with three runs scored and a pair of RBIs for the Lady Cardinals while Alyssa Bittner went 2-for-2 with a double and two RBIs. Ashley Wruble doubled while going 2-for-3 with three runs scored and Maia Cogley singled and had two runs scored.

Ella Marconi and Rachel Haight each singled to pace the Lady Wolves offense.

Wruble got the win for DCC with three strikeouts and no hits allowed in three innings in the circle. Madison Hoyt gave up a pair of hits and had four strikeouts in the final two innings

Madison Stahli had a strikeout in the loss for Kane.

GALETON 13, SMETHPORT 2, 6 INNINGS

GALETON, Pa. – Haylee Lundington went 2-for-3 with a pair of runs scored and two RBIs to help Galeton to a 13-2, six-inning victory over visiting Smethport.

Jessie Evans (2-for-4) and Brielle Kalacinski (2-for-3) each drove in three runs for the Lady Tigers while Kate Kulish went 2-for-4 with a run scored and two RBIs. Katie Pagano had two runs scored with Cara Parsell and Mikayla Scott hitting singles.

Sam Tanner paced the Hubbers offense going 3-for-3 including home run, double, two runs scored and an RBI.

Regan Fuller got the win for Galeton giving up two runs on seven hits while striking out four.

Coryn McClain struck out five batters in the loss for Smethport.

CLEARFIELD 4, PENNS VALLEY 1

HYDE, Pa. – Emma Hipps had a double while going 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI to help Clearfield defeat visiting Penns Valley, 4-1.

Lauren Ressler drove in two runs while going 1-for-3 with a double and run scored for the Lady Bison. Alexis Bumbarger and Kyra Mollura each had doubles.

Lydia Collison went 2-for-3 with a run scored to pace the Lady Rams.

Hipps had six strikeouts and gave up three hits and a run to earn the victory for Clearfield.

Kendra Bumgardner gave up six hits, four runs, three unearned and had three strikeouts in the loss for Penns Valley.

BROOKVILLE 12, BROCKWAY 2, 5 INNINGS

BROOKVILLE, Pa. – Megrah Suhan was 3-for-4 with a double and three RBIs to lead Brookville to a 12-2, five-inning win over visiting Brockway.

Julie McWilliams was also 2-for-2 with two runs scored and two RBIs, while Aleah Ames was 2-for-3 with two runs scored.

Carlie McManigle got the win going five innings allowing two unearned runs on four hits and a walk while striking out seven.

Morgan Lindemuth was 2-for-3 with two RBIs for Brockway.

PORT ALLEGANY 6, OSWAYO VALLEY 5

PORT ALLEGANY, Pa. – Jenna Sprankle’s double drove in Bree Garzel for the game-winning in the bottom of the seventh and lifted Port Allegany over visiting Oswayo Valley, 6-5.

Garzel started the seventh with a double before scoring on the Sprankle hit. Both her and Sprankle scored runs while going 1-for-3. Kierra Keck was also 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored.

Karina West paced the Green waves going 3-for-4 including a home run, double, two runs scored and three RBIs. Macy West went 2-for-3 with a triple and run scored while Makenzie Messler had a pair of hits. Karley Carpenter singled and drove in two runs.

Kaylee Boyd got the win going the distance and allowing five runs, four earned, on nine hits and two walks while striking out two.

Karina West took the loss for Oswayo Valley giving up six runs, two unearned on five hits while striking out three.

PUNXSUTAWNEY 12, ALTOONA 0, 5 INNINGS

ALTOONA, Pa. – Kendal Johnston threw a 1-hit, five-inning shutout to lead visiting Punxsutawney to a 12-0 win over Altoona.

Johnston walked two and struck out six.

Johnston helped herself at the plate going 2-for-2 with a double, two walks, a run scored and an RBI.

Grace Aikens and Sarah Weaver hit home runs for the Lady Chucks with Weaver going 3-for-4 with three runs scored and two RBIs and Aikens going 1-for-3 with a walk, two runs scored and two RBIs.

Also for Punxsutawney, Riley Presloid was 2-for-4 with a run scored and two RBIs and Elliot Ferrent was 1-for-3 with two RBIs.

Abby Smearman had the lone hit for Altoona.
