4-4 ROUNDUP: Sherwin’s Gem Leads Karns City to Win Over Redbank; Moniteau Softball Slugs Way Past Union

BUTLER, Pa. (EYT/D9) – Cole Sherwin was the model of consistency.

The Karns City right-hander wasted little time in tossing a gem against Redbank Valley, needing just 81 pitches over seven strong innings to help the Gremlins to the 3-1 win Monday evening.

Sherwin gave up just two hits and a run, which came in the seventh. He struck out two.

Karns City (1-1) managed just three hits against a trio of Redbank pitchers, but made them count.

Hunter Troutman provided the offensive spark for the Gremlins with two of those hits. He also drove in a run.

Jacob Callihan also had a hit for Karns City.

Bryson Bain got the start for Redbank Valley (0-1). He worked two innings, giving up two runs and striking out four.

Ty Carrier relieved him and worked three scoreless frames. Cam Wagner also pitched an inning in Redbank Valley’s debut, allowing a run while striking out a pair.

Tyler Hetrick and Trevor Rearick got the only two hits for Redbank.

MONITEAU 8, A-C VALLEY/UNION 5 – Deadlocked at 5-5 heading into the ninth inning, the Warriors put up three runs, keyed by a two-run single by Connor Ealy, for the victory.

Jakub Obman, who also had a RBI single in the ninth, went 3-for-5 with a home run and six RBI.

A-C Valley/Union led 5-4 thanks to a four-spot in the bottom of the sixth inning, but Moniteau rallied to tie in the top of the seventh to force extra innings.

Trey Fleming went 3-for-5 to lead A-C Valley/Union at the plate.

Dawson Wallace picked up the win in relief for Moniteau.

Branson Carson struck out 11 in five innings in a no-decision for the Warriors.

Gary Amsler went 5 1/3 innings for A-C Valley/Union in his no-decision. He struck out 10.

SOFTBALL

Emma Covert scored five runs on her 3-for-3 day that included a double and a triple as Moniteau broke out the bats in a big way in a 23-7 win over Union.

Brianna Rottman also touched the plate five times in the Warrior onslaught.

Brynne Barger was the beneficiary of all that offense, picking up the win in the circle.

Destiny Travis also had a pair of hits for Moniteau, including a double and three RBI. Megan Wise also doubled and drove in a pari for the Warriors.

Mackenzie Davis was the big bat for Union with a three-RBI day.
