Lauer, Miller Help Clarion Past North Clarion; Forest Earns Key Softball Win Over Cranberry

CLARION, Pa. (EYT/D9) — Devin Lauer went 2 for 2 with a double, triple, three runs scored and a RBI and Tanner Miller drove in three as the Clarion baseball team downed North Clarion, 8-2, on Tuesday afternoon.

North Clarion (4-11) led 1-0 until the bottom of the second when Clarion scored twice. The Bobcats added four more runs in the bottom of the third inning to grab a 6-1 lead.

That was more than enough for Clarion starting pitcher Matt Alston, who scattered six hits in five innings. He gave up two runs (one earned) struck out five and didn’t issue a walk.

Derek Smail worked the final two innings.

Wade Peters went 2 for 3 and Zeelan Hargenrader tripled for North Clarion.

KARNS CITY 6, BROCKWAY 2

Jacob Jones went 2 for 4 with a triple and two RBIs and Braden Grossman also had a pair of hits and a pair of RBIs in the Gremlins’ win.

Mason Sherwin got the victory on the mound. He gave up two unearned runs on five hits in 6 2/3 innings of work. He struck out five and walked three, but had to leave with two outs in the seventh because of pitch count.

Jones needed just three pitches to get a strikeout to end the game.

Jacob Callihan also had a pair of hits and Hobie Bartoe tripled for Karns City (12-5).

PUNXSUTAWNEY 8, CLEARFIELD 3

Jake Sikora homered, singled and drove in two and Carter Savage knocked in three to lead the Chucks.

Sikora was also the winning pitcher for Punxsutawney (16-2). He went five strong innings, striking out five.

CLARION-LIMESTONE 5, ELK COUNTY CATHOLIC 1

Tommy Smith went 2 for 3 with two RBIs and Jake Smith and Logan Lutz each doubled in the win for the Lions.

Kohen Kemmer got the win. He gave up one run on seven hits in six innings.

Lutz struck out the side in the seventh.

Jake Smith had two hits for C-L (11-5).

SOFTBALL

Faith Dietrich homered again, going 5 for 5, and knocked in seven runs to lead Forest to a 16-11 win over Cranberry.

Brenna Thompson also homered for Forest and drove in four runs.

Izzy Flick got the win in the circle.

She got plenty of support from the lineup.

Brooke Felleti had three hits and three runs scored, Alexa Carll knocked in three and Madison McFarland had a pair of hits and scored three times for the Fires (9-5).

Alexis Resinger homered for Cranberry.

KARNS CITY 16, CLARION 1

Addison Burrows had a big game for Karns City, going 3 for 4 with a home run, three runs scored and three RBIs at the plate and earning the victory in the circle in a win over Clarion in three innings.

Lyrik Reed had a pair of hits and Bailee O’Donnell had three RBIs for Karns City (7-7).

Nicole Taylor, Haley Sherman and Taylor Hunter each drove in two runs for the Gremlins.

Emily Troese, Bri Forrest and Hadlee Campbell had hits for Clarion.
