No. 11: Karns City Girls’ Soccer Dominance
The Karns City girls’ soccer program moved up a classification in 2016 going from 1A to 2A thanks to added classes in the PIAA.
The new class didn’t stop the Lady Gremlins train from rolling, though.
A 3-0 win over Clearfield in the District 9 title game Nov. 1 at Clarion University’s Memorial Stadium delivered Karns City it’s 19th D9 girls’ soccer title in the last 22 years.
And they did it with a novice in goal.
Hannah Knoll was forced into action in the title game for the Lady Gremlins after injuries to the other three Karns City keepers.
It didn’t matter.
Knoll made some key early saves to keep the Lady Bison off the board, and then Megan McCartney took over scoring two times before halftime to put Karns City up 2-0 at the break.
Chelsey Dodds then knocked in an insurance marker after the break, and it was more celebration time in Karns City, which might be running out of room at the school for all the soccer championships.
Karns City head coach Tracy Dailey talked about the win.
